Here is the poll I promised you.

Any comments here?

How can we improve this forum and get more members?

Would you like to see a permanent Question and Answer Thread?

Would you like to see a permanent thread with references to Bookstores, Icon stores, Websites about Orthodoxy, etc.?

We may be able to improve by starting threads more often, just about the little things.;)

I think we need an Orthodox FAQ.

Yeah, I'm sure Orthodox and non-Orthodox alike would love links to the things you mentioned.

I am new to these forums, and I'm a little overwhelmed by all the options I'm finding! It's great! No, I'm not afraid to ask questions, even if they are dumb questions because what real harm can come to me? I mean, really?

The Orthodox FAQ and links to Orthodox stores are a good idea.

Your sister in Christ,
Xenia

Would anyone like to have a subforum like they do in OBOB?

St. Athanasius Online Bookstore and Chapel

We gotta list our patron saint somewhere, don't we?

In this subforum we could list bookstores and icon vendors, on-line and on site locations.

We could list actual parish directories, prayers, "live" devotions, quotes from the Fathers, a prayer list for the departed and the living, lives of the saints, dynamis, etc.

Several threads have been started on these topics only to be buried in our archives.

How do you feel about this?

Yours in Christ our God,
Elizabeth

I would like to.
I was pondering the FAQ and how to organize it on the way home from work. I think if we make a few stickies (FAQ,Bookstores,Parish Directories, Live prayers etc.) we can then petition Erwin to allow us a subforum to oraganize these into.

Great idea! Also if we have an Orthodox FAQ, we should keep it as a stickie in the main forum. Do you guys agree with me?

Dear Chris and Philip:

I was wondering if we could do the FAQ's like the OCA does. Referring people to the OCA website so as not to duplicate but then having several sets of FAQs like:

FAQs on the history of the Orthodox Church
FAQs on monasticm and the Church hierarchy
FAQs on the Holy Mysteries (Sacraments)
FAQs on the Holy Bible and how it was canonized
FAQs on the Orthodox Divine Liturgy
FAQs on feasting and fasting
FAQs on the Saints and venerating Icons
FAQs on the Jesus Prayer
FAQs on a rule of prayer
FAQs on use of candles, incense and developing a home icon corner
FAQs on the differences between Catholicism and Orthodoxy
FAQs on the differences between Protestantism and Orthodoxy
FAQs on the different jurisdictions and why we have multijurisdictions in the USA
...
We could look up the old threads and take the best questions and answers always referring to Father John's excellent articles in the OCA, and perhaps those in the GOA and the Antiochian Orthodox Church Q&A.

Maybe you could split up the job among us (for those who want to do it) and take the position of a supervisor.

This could be a separate subforum in it's own right.

But the important thing is to have topical FAQ's or it becomes unmanageable.

P.S. Our latest thread with Suzannah is priceless.

Lovingly yours in Christ our God,
Elizabeth

Then we would need to have an extensive index at the beginnning of the FAQ, which could be quite cumbersome. If we have several FAQ threads, with subcategories in each one, plus an index at the beginning, then the threads would be more manageable. Besides, some of our visitors have asked such unique questions, that several members and I have had to email Father John and other priests for the answers.

Dear Chris, Philip, and other members of our Ancient Way forum:

I'm posting questions here so they won't get lost in the Taverna thread.

Could we also have another subforum called "The Cloud of Witnesses" where we can have threads on the lives of the saints? Andreas, Photini, and others have started threads on St. John of San Francisco, etc.

What do you think?

Good idea. We could start many threads on different Saints, and write a bit about their teachings and their lifes.
