  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Do you go to this college?

Hey, I am looking into some various colleges right now, and Pensacola Christian College happens to be one of them. I was just wondering if any of you guys are attending there. If so, can you tell me what the dress requirements and guidelines are like?

I also have the same questions for any of you who are attending Liberty University or Samford University.

Thanks so much!

I didn't attend PCC, but I did visit it during my senior year in high school (that feels like so long ago now), and I know a number people who went there.

The dress code there during the day is mostly church-style clothes all the time. Guys have to wear dress shirts and ties, and girls have to wear dresses or skirts that are below the knee. Girls cannot wear jeans or slacks, and no one can wear shorts except at athletic events. I think that the dress code lets up slightly in the evenings, but it's still pretty strict. If you're familiar with Bob Jones University, the rules at the two colleges are comparable. It is extremely strict--you can expect to get quite a few demerits while you are there no matter what you do. However, many people I know who went there wouldn't have it any other way.

I've never been to Liberty, but I have a few friends who went there. It's not quite as strict as PCC, but it's pretty close. Here is a link to their student handbook, which includes the dress code: http://www.liberty.edu/StudentAffairs/index.cfm?PID=1333.

Sorry, I don't know anything about Samford.

Hopefully this doesn't arive to late! PCC is a VERRRRRY strict collage! for example

[font=Arial, Helvetica]You may not interact with a student of the opposite sex in any way off-campus without prior approval and an approved chaperone.

Men may not give their suit jacket to their date.

Members of the opposite sex may not interact in unchaperoned areas

Siblings of the opposite sex should not interact in unchaperoned areas to abstain from the "appearance of evil."

Each gender must use segregated stairways, elevators and in some

Prohibited things:

Playing of instruments (of any kind) in your room, or outside. The only place to play on campus is in the practice rooms.

Possession of an electric guitar or amplifier.

Listening to Rich Mullins.

Going home for thanksgiving

Using any translation other than the KJV

One college I was looking at you couldn't hug someone of the opposite sex.. that's what turned me off. Not that I get hugs or anything, but if I was with my boyfriend I would want to hug him! And just about everyone I know who went to that particular college met their spouse there..

Lots of Christian collages restrict PC (physical contact) but some REALLY strict (legalistic) schools like PCC, Bob Jones even restrict social interaction. BJ even has PINK AND BLUE SIDEWALKS!! Told to me by a former female student who had enough and transfered to Baptist Bible Collage in springfield Mo were I was attending.

Isn't Bob Jones University the school that got into a messy situation a few years back over a rule on interracial dating? I don't know why anyone would want to go to a school that honestly believes that interracial marriage goes against the teachings of God and should not be encouraged ... Last I heard, the rule was struck down, but students need to get a letter from their parents stating that they may date outside of their race.

The sidewalk thing is very much an urban legend. There are not separate sidewalks for guys and girls, and they're certainly not color coded. I know plenty of people who have gone there and said that it's not true, and I have visited it myself and seen that it's not true.

It is true that the library at PCC has different staircases and study areas for guys and girls. They say that the purpose for this is to prevent guys and girls from distracting one another while they're studying.

This is true. In fact, BJU has gotten into trouble for race issues before. It was founded as a whites-only school. Eventually, the IRS threatened to take away it's tax-exempt status if it remained whites-only, so it began accepting other races. (I think this happened in the late 70s or early 80s.) However, it refused to allow interracial dating, so the IRS took away its tax-exempt status anyway. It was just a few years ago that it abolished the interracial dating rule, but BJU has said that it will not try to get back its tax-exempt status.

 I had never considered that some Christian colleges would have rules like this! I am astonished. I go to a Cal State school. If I were to transfer to PCC or the like I'd be too "liberal" for those schools. Wow, and I thought I was too modest and conservative as it is.

Some years back, while living in Chicago, I attended a church were the chareman of the decon board was black and had a white wife. It was a very legalistic church that agreed with much of the stricked rules, such as girls can't leave campus without a chap. To see what the responce would be they asked "If our duaghter attends here, who could she date?" The responce was that she would have to decide up front weither to consider herself white or black!! Thats down right vile!!

can't be too modest. you can half false modesty (actually pride), be legalistic or such, but not have to much TRUE modesty. though this present world scoffs at any modesty.

1 Timothy 2:9 nas¶ Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments;

Nothing in there about pants, which bost of the mentioned schools prohibit ladies from wearing

I guess the purpose in all those rules are to "protect" the students, but what happens when the students leave the school and go out into the real world? I think it's reasonable for a Christian college to have some rules, mind you. I attended a Christian college where we could not have members of the opposite sex in our dorm halls unless we asked permission from the dorm mom (permission was only given if the guys were helping us carry something). We were required to attend chapel services once a week, we had to live on campus unless we had a special circumstance, we had to have bible credits to graduate, etc. I think that's reasonable, and still gives some freedom to the students, but makes it very clear that there are standards they want to see the students uphold. But what is segregating men and women in college preparing them for? Life isn't like that. We need to know how to act appropriately toward those of the opposite sex....how can we learn how to do that if we're not put in a position to do it for ourselves?

Those are just my thoughts. I don't really have a problem with schools with those strict rules, I just wouldn't want to attend there--and so I didn't. :) Anyone who goes there knows what they're in for.

I enrolled for a semester at Liberty University. But I never actually went to the campus (in Virginia), I was enrolled in their online "distance learning" program for a Master's in Counseling. It was really cool-you ordered all the lectures on video and watched them, read the books, and took the tests whenever you wanted.

Everything is due at the end of the semester though, so it's really hard if you're a procrastinator like I am. I personally loved the lectures and professors I watched. I got my Bachelor's at a secular university, it was SO awesome and "weird" to have prayer before class and have everything you learned have reference to Christ. It was such a blessing.

Liberty does have similar conduct rules though-I think guys still have to wear a shirt and tie, girls have some restrictions too. But if I could move to Virginia, I'd go there in a heartbeat!!!! ^_^ I had to drop out of the program though, because the distance learning program was just too much for my un-disciplined self- now I'm looking for a good school here in Florida.

I've also heard that Palm Beach Atlantic University is also a great school here in Florida, but I'm in Northern Florida and this school is way down south.

Just make sure that whatever school you choose that they are accredited. This is really important- it's the only way your degree will mean something in the real world. PBAU and Liberty are both accredited. GOOD LUCK and may God be your guide in this important decision!

I think that's the point. No matter how strict or how lenient the rules are, there will be people who complain about their being too strict or too lenient (yes, there are people who think the rules at places like BJU and PCC are too liberal). I went to a college that was similar to yours, and even though I thought the rules were reasonable, there were plenty of people who complained about them. I even know people who are glad that these colleges are as strict as they are, so I see no reason to deprive them of a place that fits their standards. While I do have plenty of problems with BJU, PCC, and a few similar colleges, the rules aren't one of them.
