  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you go all out at school parties?

DS (3) brought home bags of stuff from his school's Valentine's Party. I sent valentines and plates and cups but nothing extra for the other kids. After getting all of that loot, I felt kinda bad that we didn't do anything 'extra'. I haven't seen what DD (9) got yet. I sent cupcakes to her school for the party and she took valentines. I'm wondering if I'm going to feel negligent when I see her loot. :sorry:

When I was a kid (don't you love it when people begin with that phrase?) we just gave out paper valentines. Once in a great while someone would put a small handful of conversation hearts candy in the envelope too.

Nowadays the kids are including candy. Good candy, not just a handful of hearts. Pretty soon it's going to become just like Halloween.

We usually just include one piece of candy per valentine - like a Hersheys kiss or something. That seems to be the norm around here. Some kids really go all out and bake cookies and give treat bags. Other kids just do the paper valentine. Our kids come home with bags of loot too.
