My dental hygienist told me that she once asked a boy of about 12 whether he flossed regularly and he said "yep, I'm very regular: once every six months when I come to the dentist."

I'm pretty bad about flossing. I only do it a few times a month.

I floss for a couple of days, and then forget . Unlike brushing my teeth, I haven't quite made a habit of it. Fortunately, my gums are still healthy.

Its weird because I don't see it as essential. My teeth are in great health (apart from one due to physical trauma)and I have hardly any fillings, I would say that I have flossed about twice in my life. I brush my teeth and whole mouth thoroughly though.

If you know how to brush really well, flossing really isn't necessary every day (unless you've got obvious hunks of food in your teeth, of course). I usually only floss if I've been eating something that's all snagged up in my choppers, and also before I go to the dentist. I also don't brush twice a day, I only do once a day. No cavities in 13 years. I had braces as a teen, so I learned how to brush like nobody's business, and I still use the same techniques.

I agree that you don't need to brush more than once per day as long as you brush well.

It can be bad because if you don't (or if you don't floss correctly, which a lot people don't ) you can get calcium build up and what not between your gums and teeth. It's not just about getting out the food chunks stuck in there.

and if you don't (well more like if you don't practice good oral hygiene in general) it could lead to not so pleasant mouth problems

Those who only brush once a day, don't you worry about your breath being smelly? I brush everytime I leave the house or am going to see someone and always before I go to bed.
