  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you ever worry ...

that your kids are going to go HUH? on Christmas morning? LOL DD is at an odd age (9) where it's hard to know what she wants. She hasn't really said much so we've kinda guessed what to get her. We got her a CSI (she's never watched the show) DNA kit because she loves Science but I am so afraid that she will say what were ya'll thinking. LOL Anyone else in this situation?

We started a tradition with our first born....3 gifts from Santa, 1 gift from parents. We joked that 3 gifts were good enough for baby Jesus. So it's not so hard to come up with 3 items. They are hard to buy for though. They don't watch tv much so they aren't bombarded with ads about cool toys. My 9yo wants a beanbag chair for her room, a ripstick(2 wheeled skateboard) and mini speed stack cups. That's what Santa is bringing. She asked her grandma for an electric blanket...she used one at a friends and loved it. But she doesn't really play with toys. She has a Nintendo DS that she plays with.....but really she's reading, on the computer or outside with friends most of the time. Oh...she's getting a music stand from her Aunt. They like odd stuff, lol.

We started the 3 gift thing this year and I love it! DD isn't into electronics much. She has a Gameboy but we haven't upgraded to the DS because she doesn't play the GB much. We have a Wii that is rarely played. She asked for a dollhouse but she's 9 and we gave one away that she never played with a few years ago. I can't see buying another one although we did look. Kinda makes me sad that she's not little anymore you know?

I know. My oldest is getting a laptop..that's it...all 3 gifts in one, lol. She does so much homework on the computer already....it's kind of sad. My youngest is 7 and there are some toys he's into...he still likes board games and puzzles and little skateboards and blocks. But he's definitely and outdoors kid. He's like a postal worker....rain sleet shine, he wants to be outside!

I love the 3 gift idea, I think we're going to do that this year now. lol :) Our son is 2 so I really don't know what to get him, I told hubby we'll go to the post office and get large priority mail boxes cause he loves boxes - and they're free! :) lol I did want to get him a Power Wheels, but that's not in the budget. I already told the family books or clothes cause he rarely plays with toys and he has so many!

We have the kids make lists so we are not embarrassed. LOL They know they won't get it all. Before they could make lists it's just a matter of knowing their interests...the science kit should go great whether she knows what CSI is or not.

How old is your DD? A laptop is what DH wanted to get our DD, but she doesn't show enough responsibility IMO.

DD was supposed to make a list. DH has been telling her since before Thanksgiving but she never did it. Crazy child. I had lists upon lists when I was her age.

We don't spend all that much. Never have. My parents didn't spend much on us and it kinda stuck. Of course I always envied our cousins that got tons of stuff. :sorry:

My oldest will be 13 in January...but she's very responsible...and especially careful with her stuff. She's had her own cellphone since this summer and takes excellent care of it. We have a kids computer(my dh's hobby is building computers) but all three of my kids prefer computer time and nearly never watch tv. So it's hard when the oldest has a homework project she needs the computer for.
