  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you ever really THINK about why you're here??

I've become a committed Christian within the last 6 weeks (end of April 2012). I've grown a lot in the Lord and I am very excited about God. I am very excited about learning about Him, getting to know Him more and more each day and about opportunities to teach others about him. God has changed my heart and mind in more ways than I can legibly express. But I just now (about 10 minutes ago) realized why I am here, now. Why I was born when I was born and how it, as everything, is God's own plan.

I was born with no thyroid gland. I was born in 1980. It was a lot more rare (thyroid diseases or disorders) than now but not as rare as it had been in the past. My mom told me once when I was younger, in my late teen years - I don't even know why she said this, it was just a sort of flippant remark - "If you had been born 20 years earlier, or more, than you were born, doctors probably wouldn't know what to do with you. There is a reason you were born when you were." I sort of cast that thought off for years. Who cares. So I was born when I was. Big deal.

But just now, after watching a few of these "I Am Second" testimony videos, I quickly reflected on that statement and my recent conversion to Christianity. My being born in 1980 was not a fluke. It was in God's hands. He knew what he was doing. My personality is exactly the way God wants it to be (despite being stubborn and rebellious) because He can, and does, use it for his glory! Every experience in my life has led to this point in my life and I am where I need to be to do God's work and teach others about Him.

As soon as I realized all this, I had to just go lay down and weep. It was overwhelming(ly great). But at the same time, I was also laughing. I just had to share this. God is indeed great and His plan is perfect!

I had a discovery like that. I have heard God speak to me, occasionally. Once He told me that He wants me to be "a loving example." Then, a while later, I was looking through some old papers (from around the time I was born) with my mother and I asked her what my first word was. She said it was "love."

There was a reason for that, too. You see, my parents had a lot of trouble conceiving... they spent at least a decade trying to have a baby before I finally came along. Because of those difficulties, and because their dream of being parents had finally come true, my mother would tell me she loved me several times a day. So, I know God was working in my parents' lives, and He's working in mine as well.

Thank you for sharing your faith and inspiration with us. Sounds like you have come to learn a lot in the Lord in just a few short weeks. Sometimes when the road gets long and times get tough, these are good things for us to remember. That he intends for us to be where we are, and acccepts us as we are. He does have bigger plans for me, yet he still loves me right here and right now.

I almost forgot about this post. :D

So, shortly after I made this post, my mom visited. I asked her about this matter. She said it was not a matter of 20 years, but a matter of THREE years or less. They only began screening for thyroid deficiency after 1977. If they hadn't screened for it, the doctors wouldn't have even thought of that as my problem because I wasn't displaying the typical symptoms of thyroid problems. I am even more convinced that God is in complete control, in knowing this.

Thanks for the replies though. I appreciate them :)
