Speak for yourself when it comes to learning. AV, considering your track record of claims that can be proved false, I'm not sure you would be on my top ten list of teachers.
You don't prove anything false -- proof is for alcoholics.

I don't know how many times I've been told that science does not prove anything.

Science either affirms or falsifies something; but not proves it.

I have a terrific idea what I am rejecting.
Good ... we'll see if that's true.

If I see your fellow scientists look to you for clarification of what I believe (since I bowed out), I might believe you.

But I've already deemed your fellow scientists as not really wanting to learn; so I think you're safe.

Claiming the events of a holy book as entirely true is not a logical idea. The Qur'an in most regards is considered the perfected form of the Bible. It is the Bible but in a more simplistic, stylized and poetic form without the integration of texts which hold no authority. Christians have the entire Tanakh which is called the Old Testament and according to most has no authoritative value.

All of these books were written in a time where the concept of god was equivalent to science and was also the core basis for the institution of law. The events in the Qur'an and the Bible are regarded as utter myths to me, I mean no offense by this. What you extract from the stories is the issue. Concepts such as the Masih or the Khatam an-Nabuw'wah are created to add authoritative finality to the message to prevent later corruption. Almost all religions have created an empire in their past and thrived with the thanks of their teachings but they have also created periods of darkness and chaos.

The rejection of Evolution is the perfect example of this. Religious texts are the word of religious philosophers and poets. The stories they create are the stories of grandeur and hope. They were the fillers for the gaps mankind had in ancient times. Now science has came about and it should be the filler for the mistakes of religious texts.

۞علی دشتیAli Dashti 23 years: A Study of the Prophetic Career of Mohammad۞

"In all societies, from the most primitive to the most advanced, religious beliefs have arisen and remain strong. Among primitive peoples they are stained with superstition and illusion. Among advanced peoples they have acquired moral and social aspects under the influence of great thinkers, whose teachings eventually led those peoples to adopt more civilized and equitable ways of life.
These great men came forth in the roles of legislators, reformers, or philosophers, such as Hammurabi, Confucius, Buddha, Socrates, and Plato. Among the Semitic peoples they always came forth as prophets, that is to say as self-proclaimed spokesmen for God........
...The problem of prophethood must therefore be approached from another angle. It should be seen as a sort of mental and spiritual genius peculiar to an extraordinary individual."

Take no offense by these words because I enjoy all religions and their contributions. I love your prophets and I love your sages but I do not love the evils that lure heads from the dark insidious pools of ignorance that come from the lower dimensions of our human minds. These are the things that I hate as they always find a way to sink their claws into religion and call it absolute truth. They corrode study, reason and intellect and call wishful thinking, faith.

I will ... as yet ... they haven't asked you a single question.

You guys are about as plastic in your sincerity as a Barbie doll.

At least I openly claim I'm not interested in learning [science].

As opposed to you guys, who hide behind a fake see-through clipboard and pretend to be curious about theology.

Well, thats your perception AV, just as you have curious perceptions about a lot of things.

I'm interested in learning all I can, period. This is precisely why I have intensely studied the history of the bible, by reading the work of those who forget more about it, than you will ever know, people who do it for a living.

You see, I have gotten to the point I am (agnostic) from doing just that; learning all I can and putting the pieces together to make sense of them.

At the end of the day, the christian story has as many immoral qualities as it has moral and the entire story is simply not believable. The bible doesn't do anything to help the story either, because the book is clearly a desperate attempt by man to promote an agenda and the book is not credible.

So, you can believe what you wish, you can make all the claims you care to (and state you don't need to back them up), because that is what you choose to do.

Have at it!

Yes, I think I'm going to bow out of this conversation as well.

I'm not going to cast my pearls before you guys; you'll trample them and then rend me ... as you're starting to do already.

You're not really interested in learning, so I'm not really interested in teaching.

I'd be interested in learning if you had anything remotely conforming to known facts.

Your arguments are coming from way out in left field (which is fine), but if you want to make arguments which are clearly contrary to things we have good evidence to believe are true, you must be able to provide some evidence to show why your claims are correct, and the others are wrong.

You then go on to openly reject that responsibility, and then claim we're being closed minded for not believing your claims.

The problem is, you've never been interested in teaching, you've been interested in asserting, then running away when we see no reason to accept your assertions.

You have no idea what you're rejecting.

I get accused of that all the time with evolution; that's one of the reasons why I take it with a grain of sand.

Ok, what is it that he's rejecting.... and what are you rejecting by rejecting evolution?

I am curious about theology, but in the same way that I'm curious about the Greek, Norse or other Myths.

Mostly I'm curious to see why people like you actually believe it's history, rather than myth. Furthermore, I'm curious to see how thoughts and opinions like the ones you hold even develop. I'm not trying to be insulting, but to me I'm flabbergasted how you can say some of the things you say with a straight face.

Science either affirms or falsifies something; but not proves it.

But we're not talking about "science," we talking about the man who tells science to take a hike.

You make a false claim, you get called out on it, you ignore it and keep repeating the same falsehoods.

Lather, rinse, repeat. I suppose as long as you get attention, the abysmal picture you paint of Christianity doesn't bother you.

We're very curious about theology -- but we'd rather ask someone in the know than you.

You're strictly comic relief.

Dave,

Off topic, but I see you are from Canada so I have to ask. Who are you rooting for Hawks or Bruins?

Hawks.... Seeing the Bruins win the cup after the Leafs had them beat in Game 7 of the first round would just be brutal!!
