It still goes on although less prominent in 1st world nations. They will more likely continue to take on a more contract free independent and disposable attitude.

I see the opposite occurring. Adversity has a way of throwing people together. Your wallet will admit what the mind and heart denies. You can’t outrun inflation. A lot of the must-have this and thats will fall by the wayside when survival is threatened.

I believe there are people that you click with better than others. I believe chemistry is a real thing. But at the end of the day, "the one" is who you actively choose to be your "one" (and who actively chooses you as well).

Although I do believe in the concept of ‘the one’, I disagree w/ concepts like ‘you’re a Christian so God has one for you if you want one.’ That sounds like prosperity gospel to me. He either has one or he doesn’t have one. Just b/c you’re a Christian, that doesn’t mean God has one for you.

Do you believe in ideas like “The One,” that single special person who’s been prepared by God for you.

Is the idea childish Disney twaddle infiltrating the church, or does the belief in that one special person seem natural, since Eve was made for Adam and Adam gave up part of himself for Eve.

What’s your theory on one true love and soul mate culture?

I have heard of this concept before, somehow God has this one person prepared for you, I have always wonder what is the scriptural basis for that.....

I think it comes from taking verses about God’s sovereignty out of context.

Psalm 139:16 said:
Your eyes have seen my formless substance; And in Your book were written All the days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them.

But the false doctrine of the One goes further than that - it presumes that there is some preordained guy out there that I’m supposed to find that is a magic best fit for my personality, and if I don’t find him, it’s a big tragedy and my marriage is ill-fated. There is no Scriptural basis for that. None.

Instead, the Scripture is clear that one guy is just as good as any other, and if you married him (or her) you work it out. The marriage is based on the body, not anything else.

But perhaps I am mistaken? What verses do you have to support your argument, One believers?
