If that were true then you should be shaking in your boots because I understand evolution better then the vast majority of people in the world today. So if what you are saying were true then no one knows nothing about anything.A group of which you are quite obviously a member.
Literary genres are not limited to parabolic and historical, my friend. Furthermore, deciding that Jesus would have been lying if these things didn't literally happen is nothing but cultural projection. The definition and value of truth is constructed. We have a different use for it than they did.If He was the son of God He knew the truth. If He spoke things that were not true, then He could not have been the son of God after all. Anyone I ever met older than seven knew the difference between a parable and referencing real people and events.
69% of people aren't Christian. If you're right, 4.7 billion people are wrong. How do you know you're not wrong now?
I presume you've never witnessed a miracle. 25% of Americans have. If you're right now, 75,000,000 of them are wrong.
I presume you do not believe in miracles. 80% of Americans do. If you're right now, 240,000,000 of them are wrong.
Two thirds of Americans believe that angels and demons are real. If you're right now, 198,000,000 of them are wrong.
In other words you talked yourself into it.
What's the other part that led you away? Searching the scriptures has made me even stronger in my faith. I find it very interesting that a believer in Jesus would turn his back on him because he searched the scriptures and spent time praying about those scriptures.
What else happened and how,did searching the scripturesni lead you to turn your back on Christ?

We are free to choose Jesus or to reject Him, the Bible makes that clear. He does not force Himself on anyone.
From the word of God and through my personal relationship with Him. Also, in the fruits of the Spirit I have witnessed in others who likewise accept Jesus as their Saviour.
Who said you were a Christian? You or Christ?
Being raised in a Christian home and attending a Christian church three times per week doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in the garden makes you a tomato. Being a Christian means accepting Christ as your savior and receiving the Holy Spirit; the direct link between yourself and God. A true Christian could no more deny the existence of God than a divorced person could deny that their spouse never existed. If you had a relationship with Christ you would know He exists. If you don't believe He exists, you never had a relationship.
Okay, so you went through the motions but never made the commitment.
So because you didn't commit yourself to the Lord, obviously the Lord cannot be real.
I understand your reasoning now.
I once believed myself to be a rich man. However, the millions never came my way so obviously there is no such thing as great wealth.
I once believed i could swim the ocean, but when I nearly drowned in a swimming pool i came to realize that the human body could not be supported by water.
I have faith because I have searched the Scriptures, called on the name of Jesus to be saved, repented of my sins and entered into a personal relationship with Him. He has given us His Spirit to guide us in the world, as the Bible says, we will not be left on our own.
I have found no such assurance in any other faith or belief system, and yes, I have looked. I have wrestled with my faith, I have felt abandoned by God many times, but it was I who turned away from Him, not the other way around. Jesus has never failed me.
If KWCrazy is right, then the majority of humanity - those who aren't Christian, much less his version of Christian - are wrong. Oh look, I can appeal to the majority too!
Every miracle I have ever seen restores everything to the way they should be. So the problem is not to show there was a miracle the problem was to show there was something wrong in the first place. Of course they have their spontaneous theory also. They deny divine cause.
Do you mean you want my testimony or you want me to share someone elses testimony with you? For some people everything is a miracle and for some people nothing is a miracle.(Oh, I'm going to regret this....)
Please describe one of those 'miracles'.
How do you reconcile the fact that you are slave? How do you deal with your treatment of women and your racism? Jesus makes this all very simple: "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." No one is qualified to throw a stone at others because we are all guilty. How did your 'search' reconcile slavery? The treatment of women? The racism?
How do you reconcile the fact that you are slave? How do you deal with your treatment of women and your racism?
Just describe one of the miracles you have witnessed, don't use the usual diversion tactics all Christians employ to get out of answering questions about their crazy claims, just answer the question and prove to everyone that you are not just making the miracle claims up.Do you mean you want my testimony or you want me to share someone elses testimony with you? For some people everything is a miracle and for some people nothing is a miracle.
This is not an accusation, but how could you discern that what you believe is real and not some form of supported delusion?
After all, people can be convinced of the 'reality' of all kinds of things, can't they? I saw a wonderful film some time ago about the life of the outstanding mathematician, John Nash. Are you familiar with his story?
That isn't a word of a god though, is it? It's the word of other men.
No, it is the word of God, written by men, divinely inspired.
I do know his story, yes. (And I saw the movie as well)
However, if you want to compare the Christian faith to a mental illness (in this case paranoid schizophrenia) then you have some honest questions to ask.
For example, is mental illness contagious? Have there ever been any instances where this has been proven?
Can you get a mental illness by reading something? Or simply by hearing something from someone else who has such a severe and chronic "delusion."
I have an anxiety disorder, and have suffered severe panic attacks. Anxiety is something I have dealt with my whole life. Despite being around my family all those years, and now being here with my husband, I have never passed on my mental illness to them. Mental illness simply is not contagious and cannot be passed from person to person, like say, the flu or a cold or chicken pox.
