Personally, I don't care what human hands were used to write anything in scripture, as it does not shape my Faith. However, it is interesting to study the history of Christianity and find out all sorts of neat stuff. I do wonder why the Epistle to the Hebrews claims no author? That seems a bit strange.

I have heard the whole theory stating that the Gospels were not written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, yet were named for them. I think it is a very silly concept. I have no doubt in my mind that those 4 Saints wrote the Gospels. We must remember that the Bible was written through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and I do not think there are "mistakes". Not that it really matters in the long run...but I still don't doubt who the authors are.

God Bless.

One thing to keep in mind, Cotpic, is that the names of the Gospels were not even given until midway through the second century (at the earliest). There is no mention of the Church Fathers saying such and such Gospel by ____ until no less than 100 years after the events.

Therefore, I don't think it's all that silly of a consideration.

Not silly at all, all the more that it was very common in the first and second centuries to sign a work with the name of someone else, to give the tribute to a spiritual master for example. This theory as you say, Coptic_Girl, is very likely to be true, just as it is very likely that the texts have been modified with time.

Dear raphink:

Your use of "Coptic Girl" in your post leaves me confused as to whether you're agreeing with me or not; especially since I'm Muffler Dragon. :D

Would you mind clarifying that for me?

m.d.

Sorry MufflerDragon, but I wanted to both quote your post and reply to CopticGirl, and I thought it was clear ;)
I do agree with you
