• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You understand it via materialism
This is pretty much the only way to understand it since any non-material state is not demonstrable. No one has ever demonstrated that there is n afterlife, a soul, an ethereal plain, ghosts, gods, etc. I mean, you can make-up whatever you want with regard to the non-material and while there's no way to be proven wrong, there's also no way to demonstrate what you're presenting to be valid. So, this is what we can show. That brain activity and consciousness is undetachable from the physical brain.

I have loads of interest, but you and others who keep saying there's all this evidence offer nothing more than people who did not die claiming to have seen what life after death looks like. And that's it. Doesn't cut it, man.

I learn from his testimony…
You accept his testimony as true without skepticism because it confirms what you already believe to be true. I do not. I need more.

But here, we've gone off on a tangent. This thread isn't really about NDE's. Bruce Willis is not dead nor has he experienced an NDE. Rather this thread is about whether consciousness (i.e. "The Soul") exists as a physical property of the brain or if it exists separately and whether people could exist without a functioning brain. Do you have anything to present with regard to that topic? I've asked for examples of people living normal, functional lives without brains and so far no one has offered any.

your asking is futile, you ask for what you can’t use
I know it's futile, because such a person does not exist because we are our brains.

I can annoy you by asking for evidence…

And say whatever you provide is not evidence

All evidence is not created equal. People talking about things can be evidence that something is going on that needs further investigation, but it's not evidence of what's actually happening in the real world in and of itself. Testimony is notoriously unreliable. And, yes, I know that it's annoying to be asked to provide evidence for claims, but that's just how it is. That's how we actually learn about reality and what is actually true and not just made up. People can say all kinds of things are true. When they get annoyed when asked to provide evidence for their claims instead of just presenting the evidence it's telling.

Thus we are back at ground zero

From my perspective it doesn't feel like we ever left.
