  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do things really happen for a reason?

In terms of God and the infinity of the universe (as well as science in general) the Thomas Aquinas view as expounded in the 12th century is that God is beyond time. Time as we know it does not apply to God.
But time applies to the universe, and this time most likely is finite.

In so far as you comment about "magick", I would agree with you. Yet obviously you never read the book of proverbs. Its worth reading, because it give you a very clear conception of how God works out everything for his own ends:

Prov 16;4 "The LORD hath made all [things] for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil".

And no, I don't agree that you are always right.

What makes you think I have never read the Bible, inclusing Proverbs?

I consider any notion of supernatural beings influencing outcomes in the real world as "magical" thinking. I'm sure Christianity has a clear concept of how the God of their mythology "works everything out for his own ends", but I do not subscribe to said magical thinking.

(hey, you asked for opinions! that is mine!)

PS

"You know I'm right" is me joking around, because in arenas such as this, it tends to be everyone's attitude.
