  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I vaguely remember years ago when a Messianic temple was built here, the Jewish community protested it. They said it was a cult which was going to take Jewish young people away from Judaism. They said that you could not be Jewish and worship Lord Jesus.

My question is do you get hassled by other Jews because you're Messianic? For the record, I don't see you as a cult nor do I think you're dangerous. People have the right to worship God as they see fit, as long as they don't hurt anyone.

No. I attend an orthodox Jewish Shul like a few other members here, and all the congregants know I accept Yeshua as Messiah. Then again they know I dont worship him so I cant speak as to whether that has an effect or not. But ive never recieved any hassle about it, Baruch HaShem! :)

Yes, the Jewish community here has a policy of harrasssment - it has mellowed but the only time they really tolerate us when they know we are Messianic is if we put ourselves in a dangerous position - i.e. studying individually with the Chabad rabbi, etc. - MANY in our community have fallen in this trap in the last several years - more have been seriously hindered in their growth due to lingering doubts the Chabad have planted. Members of our MJ community have been allowed to become dues paying members of the JCC but not to talk about our faith.

I actually can't speak for the Orthodox reaction as that is the only branch of Judaism NOT represented here.

The Chabad did a special national search about 14 years ago and brought in a special man to be the Rabbi with the expectation that he would combat the MJ community and "protect" the Jewish community, it was part of his job description. More than the Chabad community was involved in this. He is still here, his methods have become more oblique.

I have been in a service where the police came in to and stopped the service to have us move our cars!! (We had NO prior warning) At that time we met in a church on friday eveings - we parked in the same places that the church used the rest of the week. "Someone" had called the police and complained. It was not the neighbors - we never really found out who.

We have been castigated in the press by the local non-Messianic Rabbis. The nicest we got for along time was being consigned to an "afikoros" limbo.

There have other instances, these stand out

The more persecution we suffer, the more sure I am that we're doing G-d's work!
But I feel much worse when I am discriminated by my own family and friends than
when I am 'bothered' by people whom I haven't even met. Just today, my dad
called my faith 'ridiculous' and my interpretation of scriptures 'pathetic'. :sigh:

well, I myself can speak for the Orthodox- sure, i believe in Yeshuah as Messiah ben Yosef.
Thing is, in Judaism, those that believe in Yeshuah stand on a borderline in the minds of the Orthodox.
Reason being is because they do not want christianity to enter their Synagogas.
And for this I can certainly respect them.
However, after proving oneself- a person stand stand very well within the limits of Judaism and still believe in Yeshuah and be respected. However, those "messianics" that still view things within Christianity's scope are the ones that malign the view of those who believe in Yeshuah the biblical Jewish way.

I am not saying that Gentiles have no part in this- but what I am saying is that what is Biblical is Jewish..

And we must believe in the Messiah as the Bible had established- and Judaism carries out biblical interpretation out well.

Judaism is against "Mezzies" as our friend who used to join us on these boards called them.

While I have visited tons of messianic congregations, I attend a non-messianic synagogue. I can attest to some persecution from the Jewish end of things, but to be honest, once they find out my doctrines and theologies perfectly reflect Judaism, I really am not harassed too much.

However, I have seen a lot of Jewish persecution by christians. This particular story is one of many, but I've told it a few times here on the forums. Early last year I was attending a different synagogue (I have since moved) in a small town. One shabbat I pull up into the parking lot and find a large swatsticka painted on the back of the building, windows smashed in with bricks, and papers all over the yard with pictures of our Rabbi with death threats typed on the papers.

After a small investigation, the police found it was a church from about an hour and a half away that did this. (don't know if anyone has heard of Matt Haile and his churches, but this is who did it)

I have seen christians "witness picketing" outside of the synagogue with signs declaring we were going to burn in hell for killing the messiah. Police were called to disperse the group, because the Jews felt threatened by their harassment.

I could list many other stories. My point is, yes, I have seen to some extent persecution of the messianics by the hands of the Jewish people. However, I have seen even more so the persecution of the Jews by the hands of christians. Some may think this is dead and in ages past, but I say it is alive today.

The best thing to do with those that show such hatred and ignorance is what Messiah taught:
Matthew 5
44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

Simchat_Torah, I am sorry that you experienced anti-Semitism from a group of "Christian" morons. That kind of ***** make me sick! When will people learn that anti-Semitism is evil and evil is stupid? Nobody "killed" Lord Jesus; He sacrificed himself for all people. I wonder how these people justify their bigotry when they supposedly worship a Jewish deity?

Oh well, as I said before; evil is stupid.

This is not Christianity. Nothing even remotely affiliated in any way with HaShem or Y'shua could spawn this stuff -- Haile is a white supremacist. He is violently opposed to Jews, Catholics and all races other than "white" to the point of wishing that anyone who isn't a white practitioner of the heretic "Christianity" he espouses die, violently if possible.

It is no more accurate to call the actions of Haile and his evil minions the work of the "church" or "Christians" than it is to say that the Ku Klux Klan is representative of the church, Christianity or white people.

Now I don't know who did this, but this is a situation in which our knowledge of Y'shua should prevail -- we know him. We know His word, His teachings, we know that He would never ordain such activities. These people used His name in vain, they falsely claimed to be His -- they may have even believed that they were, but what they did isn't "Christian" at all, and Christianity and the Church should not bear the blame or the stigma of their decidedly unG-dly actions.

I understand the unbelievable stance of Matthew Haile and how, for the most part, does not match up with typical christianity. However, two things remain:
1) Christianity, with its replacement theology, allows things like Haile presents to foster and grow
2) Haile has been a guest speaker at many different churches of varying denominations. Many churches, not a single "denomination" or 'cult', have accepted him and his teachings.

Now I don't know who did this, but this is a situation in which our knowledge of Y'shua should prevail -- we know him. We know His word, His teachings, we know that He would never ordain such activities.
This was a Baptist church if I'm not mistaken, in Mattoon Illinois.

The chant of "Christ Killers" has been shouted down through the centuries by the church at the Jews. This is nothing new.
