Amen does not mean the prayer is over. It means we trust in God to have confidence and faith in Him. "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." (Hebrew11:6) We do not have to say the word, we have to have that attitude in our heart.

God does not listen to our prayers with His ears. Prayers are a sweet aroma before His throne The angles collect our prayers and they are like incense. "they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints." (Rev5:8)

It is best not to take others word for this. This can easily be tested.

Ask the Father for something one time with Amen.....see if you get it.......Then after a week (or how ever long it usually takes for your prayers to get answered) and try asking again without the Amen......and, of course ask for a different item if you received the first item with the Amen.

Report back with the results so we all can learn.

OK I'll try that, thanks :)

Christ is the end of the law for righteousness (Rom 10:4)
"When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit." (John19:30) End is the root word for finished. Jesus said: "It is finished" before I was even born. So He had not even begun a work in my life yet. "For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished." (Matthew 5:10) Every stroke of the pen has meaning. All 660,000 of them in the Torah. We need to learn all of the law. If not here then we will learn in Heaven what we did not learn here on the earth. God wants Holy, Consecrated, Sanctified vessels. God lives in the Holy of Holies. We need to follow the law of God if we want to be righteous before God. Of course there is no temple, we are the temple of God, so we have to understand how the Law of God applies to us today. This determines our standing with God: "So then, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do likewise will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew5:19)There is no sin in Heaven and Jesus taught us to pray: "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:10) We are to pray for God's will to be done here on Earth as people follow the will of God in Heaven".

We can not teach others that they do not have to keep the law. God can find a way for us to do His will in our life.

God will make a way
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me
He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way
(Don Moah: Lyrics)

The Hebrew word "amen" means "it shall surely be done" or "so be it". It is not a statement saying the prayer is done, but an affirmation that God will answer it. It is a statement of faith.

Too often we hear the word "amen" by preachers as though they are asking us "right"? If understood properly, and if the preacher understands the meaning, he is actually saying "isn't this so?" but amen is not to be used in doubt. When Jesus said "Verily" or "truly" even in the Greek manuscript he is saying "amen amen".

If you like, affirm your faith that God will answer the prayer by saying "so be it" instead of "amen".

That sounds right. I like it. So what I pray for will be accomplished?

Yeah I still say amen, I think your way is better :)

Theres nothing wrong with saying amen or not. I went to this church that taught prayer had to be done kneeling, hands clasped, head bowed, eyes closed, amen at the end, Heavenly Father at the beginning.

It was a ritual of sorts that pretty much said if you can't do all these things, dont pray because God wont hear you. I didnt agree with then and still dont obviously.

God I believe probably doesn't even pay attention to what we say when we pray for the most part, he listens to our heart. A lot of times we may not know what we need or how to even ask but just saying Father help me is enough. Bless you!

What was your success rate of your prayer before you stopped the rituals, as compared to after you stopped believing in them......for prayer where you asked God for something specific?

I think He honors our honesty and humility, doesn't always mean we get what we ask for, or even if we do, it may not be right st that moment.

We always get what we ask for, whether it is "good" for us or not. Otherwise, the answer to this OP is moot.........because you will never know if your "Amens" or lack thereof is the cause of your prayer not being honored, or if this is just a random time that God chooses to say no, wait, or not answer at all....

You know I am not sure, but to me, my prayers are now not just an appointment I have to keep with God, but a living evolving relationship. Instead of praying only when I can kneel down, close eyes, etc I can just speak to God plainly as I go about my day.

The relationship part is more important to me honestly. I do see answers, but I don't track them honestly. I probably should...

Its a fair question. To be honest I have had no communication with that church in over 20 years so it would be hard for me to remember exact things I prayed for then as opposed to just the other day.

I can tell you this, my time with God now feels way more personal and lively than it ever did. I do believe that is a direct result of my interaction with him. Because again, it for me is more of a relationship than a ritual where I'm asking a far off deity for a favor.

This is what I meant. Obviously God will not honor a request that harms us or another (contrary to his will). But I truly feel that if I bring a request to God that is contrary to his will for me, then he honors my faith in coming. He honors it by changing me to not desire something harmful.

Example, when I was younger I had one very specific request of God that was foolish, but I was genuine in asking. I persisted but it never came. Then one day I just suddenly stopped asking because I no longer wanted it. I believe God heard my prayer and instead of granting my request that would have brought harm upon me (I believe it would have now), He changed me so I no longer desired it.

Wow, you're reading a whole lot into one little sentence and making some pretty big assumptions about what I meant. Did you even read Romans 10:4 ?

Yes, I agree with the relationship. And I dont want to move too far into how to pray because that is beyond this OP.

But I would say, knowing that everything you ask for will be given, as opposed to just believing it, is a very sobering experience. One may think that this is a "good" thing....making life easier after. But it isnt necessarily.....It demands full control of your thoughts and emotions after this discovery....knowing that any mis-step in your mind could bring wrath to you swiftly it not something easily handled by most.

For most it is best to pray expecting no's and waits.

Yet even after discovering the ability to get whatever you ask for....you will learn to ask for nothing.....for you already have every you need...
