Do play for the game or the future beyond the game?

When you think of computer games, do you think more of...

  • Now.

  • The Future.

Hi.

I've just been wondering what priority you put on your games relative to the future. If you're wondering what this has to do with anything and you expected me to give you some sort of basis for asking this, it would be Matthew 6:21
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
What I'm asking is how much of what you treasure about computer games has to do with the future? Do you know? Do you think it should?

I guess what I'm saying makes the most sense if you look at things from an eternal perspective, like a game about Jesus will have value now, but also - because He has eternal value - the game will have value in the future as well. That's essentially what I'm thinking about.... what does it mean for a game to have value in the future (not just now)?

Any Christian response you can think of is ok with me.

Just a thought: Jesus played for the future beyond the game. When he drew in the sand, he was playing to see what the best outcome would be for the woman accused of adultery; when Jesus asked for the coin, he was playing to see what He should best do; when Jesus asked the Pharisees a playful question, he was waiting to see if they wanted help from the person who asked the question. These are all things that give evidence that Jesus did not simply play games for the moment.
