Interesting interpretation. A few things:
- The present tense may be continuous.
- The word "cling" plus the present tense probably gives more light to a continuous (for some time) concept.
- The explanatory "for" and the "not yet" do seem to explain the ascension was nearing.
- The passive "taken up" in Matt16:19 seems to tell us that the ascension involved more than Jesus's decision and timing.
- The rest of the explanation seems to tell us that Mary had more important things to do than stand there and cling to Jesus.
