  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

ok, so no hell just a figurative lake of fire, and no forever, just ages upon ages. I wouldn't advise rejecting Jesus for a life of ages of ages in a figurative lake of fire. I don't think it makes any difference if one believes either one as to their deterent effects.

These two previos verses are related to a 3rd bible verse that speaks of a 3rd heaven.

2 Corinthians 12:2
"I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth) such an one caught up to the third heaven."

The four bible verses just posted show forth the three degrees of glory for those with the ears to hear, or on this case the eyes to see it.

... There are "sunstones", "moonstones", and "starstones" which were first used as symbollic representations of these three kingdoms of glory that were put on the exterior of the Nauvoo Temple. Each is meant to represent and remind members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints of the three kingdoms of glory to which all mankind, except sons of perdition, will attain to -- and what they should strive for, as they contemplate the contrasts.

On both a practical and a powerfully symbollic basis, God gives us in what we can fully view most every day of our lives a comparative reminder of what the contrast is between the kingdom we may inherit according to our faithfulness (or lack thereof). If we are "valiant in the testimony of Jesus", like the ancient apostles were (Judas Iscariot excepted), as well as holy men and women of all ages, we may have the hope of inheriting the Celestial Kingdom where both God the Father and Jesus dwell.

This is to me a great blessing to be able to visibly have a comparative means of differentiating between three possible eternal rewards.

Of course, the sun at noonday far outshines either the moon and stars, which are themselves beautiful and wonderful, but pale in comparison from our vantage point with the light (and thereby glory) of the sun.

So it will be with those who live worthy of that kingdom (the Celestial Kingdom)-- their happiness, their glory, their reward will excel over that of others who lived no where near as worthily, as the sun shines that much brighter than the moon and/or the stars in the heaven. These are our possible heavenly rewards. It is our choice, according to the degree which we pursue after, and live according to God's commandments and gospel, as to which of these three we obtain.

I hope this answers your question.

And what is the third heaven?

John 8
23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

The phrases kingdom of heaven and kingdom of God are used interchangably in the Bible.

But that leaves two physical heavens that are not where Christ was with God in the beginning!

Genesis 1
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

8 And God called the firmament Heaven...

14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl [that] may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.

1 Chronicles 16
26 For all the gods of the people are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.

Isaiah 34
4 And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree.

Ezekiel 32
8 All the bright lights of heaven will I make dark over thee, and set darkness upon thy land, saith the Lord GOD.

The sky and clouds are the first heaven. Outer space is the second heaven that contains stars and moons and planets. Both of these heavens are refered to as the firmament.

As all 'denominations' have their 'isms', its a good thing that its not what you believe that counts with God, but that its whether or not you love God with all your heart, soul and mind. For if we love Him to that extent, we will do unto others as we would have them to do unto us.

Rom. 2: 6. [God]Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
7. To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
8. But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

1. -the purpose of mormonism is to unite everyone under Christ that he may present them to the Father, having been cleaned by his blood..
-To bring the restored gospel, blessings of the priesthood, to all.
- To build God's Kingdom on the earth.
-To prepare people for the second coming.
-To do the works that will allow those who have passed on without having the opportunity to accept the gospel and do the things whcih Christ has commanded, so that they may be saved with the faithful.
-To assist and help the poor and the ones that require help.

2. Yes but it's more complicated than most Christian teachings of hell.

3. The LDS believe that there are two major parts to salvation;
Salvation from death- LDS believe that CHrist's resurrection overcomes physical death (the seperation of body and spirit) so that literally everyone who has been born to this world will be resurrected and given a new body, before they are judged and sent to their final state or place (such as heaven or hell or something in between.), no matter what they've done in their life.

The second part to salvation is salvation from sin, or the sepration from God, which comes from acting against God's will. While christ has paid the price for this for everyone, people must make the choices to accept Christ's gift in this matter and to keep it, to be able to benefit from it.

Mormons teach that men can become gods.
So does Jesus in John 10:34 unless I am reading this wrong

John 10:34 Answered to them the Jesus "is not it is having been Written in the Law of ye that I say 'gods/qeoi <2316> ye are'?
35 If those He said gods, toward whom the Word of the God became and not is able to be broken/annulled the Writing
36 whom the Father hallows and commissions into the world, ye are saying that 'Thou are blaspheming' that I said 'Son of the God I am'"
[Psalm 82:6]
