I was a UMC member for about 45 years. Whether the church holds to the creed is one thing (I think "yes.") Whether they recite the creed or have "pew familiarity" with it is yet a different question. My experience was the Apostle's Creed was more utilized but only occasionally so at that. Use of the Apostle's Creed seemed to dwindle in use over my time in the church, especially as my congregation became more "contemporary" (i.e. less liturgical). I left 10 years ago so I'm curious to hear what UMC members say in response to OP.

I'm curious because I've attended many denominations and no one preaches or teaches doctrine.
Yes it is recognized as apart of church doctrine but it isn't really something I've ever seen Pastors go into lengthy detail about during a normal service. Now I've definitely seen it discussed in small groups and in the connections class I went through 3 years ago

While our faith statements basically agree with the content of the Nicene Creed, the Creed is not one of our doctrinal standards. The standards are the Articles of Religion of the Methodist Church, the Confession of Faith of the EUB, the standard sermons of John Wesley, and Wesley's Explanatory Notes on the New Testament.

(Edit - By the way, the Nicene Creed and Apostles' Creed have never been official standards of the UMC. So the question about "still adhering" is that we've never officially adhered to either. But, our doctrinal standards contain equivalent beliefs.)
