• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi I'm 14, and I think I might have a mild case of OCD. Ever since I can remember whenever I touch something with my hand, I have to touch the same thing with my other hand. This is not only for my hands, but also for all other body parts, why even now I just itched the left side of the back of my head with my left hand, and then itched the right side with my right hand. Even when I see something colourful in the corner of my eye, I have to turn my head, and see it with my other eye. I am also a very nervous person, and keep on convincing my self that I haven't done enough for the lord, and doing way too many tasks for him.

I'm not sure that anybody on here can say with 100% certainty that you have OCD. I don't think it's something you can really diagnose over the Internet. What I can tell you though is that if you do have OCD you'll know it. In having OCD, overall I would have to say I feel defective. Sometimes I just feel ill (mentally). I totally get where the mentally ill term comes from because well I know what it feels like.

Now, there are many people out there that don't have OCD and they feel the need to constantly being 'doing' for God. They feel that they must do 'more' if they are to obtain/keep their salvation. I would say that's a pretty normal feeling for many people. However, if you're obsessing over it constantly and you're worried that unless you do 'x' or don't do 'y' that you're going to Hell then perhaps that's a bit of OCD talking.

It's just hard to say. OCD affects people in a lot of different ways. That's one thing that never ceases to amaze me. It's just different for everyone. However, if you have OCD... again... you'll know it!

It could be a mild form of OCD, but I would not claim it on your life if I were you. Next time you have the urge to repeat a task (such as scratching the other side of your head) don't do it, plain and simple. There may be a mild discomfort or a form of anxiety that is produced by not completing the action, but the only way to overcome this disorder is refusing to let it control you and giving in because of the discomfort associated with not completing a ritual. You seem to be at a place now where you can stop the compulsive behaviour. Just remind yourself that repeating the task is ridiculous and not needed and refuse to do it, let anxiety come if it will, but do not allow your mind and anxiety to control your actions, if you keep refusing to do the compulsive actions eventually your mind will reset itself and the anxiety will lesson in intensity. Learn to control everything you allow your body to do instead of the other way around. You can defeat this, God bless. SoS

By the way, replace these urges with the a love for the One who died to save you. These things that you feel you must do to have peace are a lie and a disorder. God desires your peace through the death of His Son, Jesus loves you and He always will and this is the foundational truth for all healing and this will always be true for the rest of your life, remember that. Blessings.

I have OCD myself and the symptoms I have are the same as yours I feel like I have to touch a certain object with my hand, and also with my other. I also feel like I have to count sylables on my hand, like for examle, when someone is talking to me, I feel obseesed with counting on my hand how many syllables they are speaking. OCD stands for obsessive compulsive disorder. The symptoms I have are first of all, feeling obsessed over things, such as counting sylables on my hand when people speak to me, and also repeating in whispers what people say to me. A lot of people have thought it was weird, but just know you are not alone, a lot of people have OCD. I have it, I have also touch certain objects with one hand and felt like I had to do the same with the other hand, etc. I know how you feel. I know how you feel also when you say you feel like you are not doing enough works for God and that you try to do more because you feel like you arenot doing enough. Just know this. The BIble makes it clear that we are saved by grace not by works.

Our worth does not come by what we have done, our worth comes soley on the Blood of Jesus that was shed for us. That whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. You can read this in John Chapter three. We are already saved by our faith in Him. All you have to do is just believe in Him. You never know what He will do for you. Just believe. You are already doing good by this belief in Him. Keep praying to Him also.
