Because it was pouring down rain, nobody's here, I can't leave and I'm bored out of my skull.

I'd never seen this thread, so it was new to me.

That it happened to be on the same day that the pope died is purely coincidental.

Then please accept my apologies for jumpting to conclusions . .. similar things happened here yesterday in other threads.

Yes, I am asking you what in the world you're talking about.

You're claiming that we're attacking the pope, but the only one who's even mentioned the pope is you.

I did not claim you were attacking the Pope in this thread . . I felt you were trying to draw us into debate by resurrecting an old thread that was 4 months dead, which already had a Cahtolic presence in it. It is a very strange thing to do, going back 4 months to find a topic like this that is debated frequently here at GT . . .

I was asking that people not do this right now, or attack our faith (as some do . .that reference was a more general one).

The pope, the Roman Catholic church, Mary, the designated hitter, the earned income tax credit were the last things on my mind.

I saw a thread that asked, simply, how do works play into our relationship with God. I answered that question.

Don't get mad at me because of something you read into it.

The timing of resurrecting of an ancient thread (and 4 months is ancient) with such a topic lent itself to being understood in a certain light. Thank you for explaining.

OK. Here is the whole of my answer:

We don't earn God's favor by good works, but good works are a good way for us to identify with Christ.

That's it. Nothing more. As you can plainly see, there is nothing there about the pope or even remotely concerning Catholic theology.

I'm at a loss as to how to explain how you came up with the idea that this one sentence, not directed at anyone, except answering the OP's question, is trying to "draw you into debate".

By itself, it wouldn't have. The post, coupled with the fact that you resurrected this 4 month old thread and did so on the day our Pope died, did lend itself to be understood in such a light. I hope ou can understand how it could appear this way.

I've already said several times now, how saddened I am that the pope died and how much respect I had for him, personally, but if we're going to follow your logic to the extreme, then we should just shut down CF, altogether, for a couple of days.

Thank you 12voltman . .. and thank you for your sharing in our grief with us.

Again, please accept my apologies for jumping to the wrong conclusion.

Peace

Thank you lambsglove :) back to you too. :)

I understand the issue from your perspective . .. however, did a 4 month old thread need, in which there was already a Catholic presence, need to be resurrected in order to have a protestant discusion on this?

Can you see a good reason for resurrecting a thread that has been dead for FOUR MONTHS regarding a quetion that happens directly touch on a key doctrine of the Catholic faith (the old faith vs faith and works issue), to which a Catholic responded (but 12voltman never posted to previously) on the very day our Pope died?

Peace

Honestly? I just saw it today. I never knew it existed before this very day. I'm sorry that I upset you by resurrecting it, I just didn't know anyone would be offended by something that seemed so harmless.

You were not the one that resurrected it please don't feel my comments about that were directed towards you - I was just trying to explain why I reacted the way I did.. 12voltman and I, I hope, have resolved the misundersetanding we had. :)

Thank you again for your compassion and understanding.
