Just 158 families have provided nearly half of the early money for efforts to capture the White House.
OCT. 10, 2015

They are overwhelmingly white, rich, older and male, in a nation that is being remade by the young, by women, and by black and brown voters. Across a sprawling country, they reside in an archipelago of wealth, exclusive neighborhoods dotting a handful of cities and towns. And in an economy that has minted billionaires in a dizzying array of industries, most made their fortunes in just two: finance and energy.

... Just 158 families, along with companies they own or control, contributed $176 million in the first phase of the campaign, a New York Times investigation found. Not since before Watergate have so few people and businesses provided so much early money in a campaign, most of it through channels legalized by the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision five years ago.

But regardless of industry, the families investing the most in presidential politics overwhelmingly lean right, contributing tens of millions of dollars to support Republican candidates who have pledged to pare regulations; cut taxes on income, capital gains and inheritances; and shrink entitlement programs.

Mostly Backing Republicans

Republicans 138 families

Democrats 20 families

Do Blacks Vote Democrat to Get "Free Stuff"?

"Blacks" vote for the party that they perceive as best representing their self-interests - just like everybody else!

Does anyone serious think that these 138 families that are bankrolling GOP presidential candidates are doing it for altruistic reasons and don't expect to be well compensated for their "investment?"

The only reason there's been failure and your vision of a country "falling apart" is because of the greed of the monied class, their insatiable need for more. It would seem that there are two different views going on between you and I, I want what's best for the common good and you seem to want what's best for those who already have. Thus our opposing views on this.

And please, don't regurgitate those GOP taking points that are failures, such as pulling on bootstraps and such. Your "argument" will fall on deaf ears.

Well finally we have something we agree on! I have NEVER said you should vote republican. I said you should vote conservative. HUGE difference. This money you are talking about has gone to try and elect a republican establishment guy. The republican establishment is predominantly progressive. Big government lots of hand outs and government control. Whether it be bailouts of banks or wall street. The republicans are just as guilty of that crap as the democrats. Coorporate cronyism is alive and well in both parties. They just have differing views on which corporations should get the money. Democrats want illegal immigration so they can have more people on the government dole getting free stuff thus having more people dependant on the government. They get more voters this way. The republicans want illegals because they are cheap labor. Both are just as guilty as the other. Conservatives did not want the bailouts. There are plenty of options for businesses to address their financial issues without getting a ton of money from the tax payers. As far as tax cuts go we believe in smaller government which leads to a smaller tax burden. Most conservatives like a flat tax or maybe even a graduated flat tax as a compromise. Getting rid of the IRS and all the tax breaks that politicians can sell for votes and money. Are you aware that the democrats in congress are now overall more wealthy than the republicans? There is nothing wrong with wealth. What is wrong is when people be it wealthy or poor demand more from their fellow citizens. I can't stand the republican esablishment. They are hurting this country just as assuredly as the progressive democrats. And that's why I no longer vote unless there is a conservative candidate on the ballot. You see I don't believe in voting for the same failed policies over and over again.

So it would appear according to this poster that most blacks are socialists who want stuff redistributed in their direction.

It's one root cause out of many. Right now, blacks who've earned college degrees have less wealth than white high school dropouts; ..........?

How is that the fault of anyone except the college educated blacks themselves and their own failure to save or invest in a prudent manner?

And I could find numerous videos of whites acting a fool too. ..................................

Thing is Whites did not cast 96% of their votes for Obama who is in the process of destroying America. Blacks did.

Most blacks are socialists in the same sense as most people in the rest of the first world (e.g. Germany, Canada, and the U.K.). Whether they want stuff "redistributed in their direction" depends on how well-off they are: rich and upper-middle-class blacks usually support a broader social safety net, even though they won't necessarily benefit from it personally.

Maybe saving/investment has something to do with it, but it also has a lot to do with systemic racist lending practices and massive housing and employment discrimination.

There is no discrimination against blacks in lending. If there was the black loan default rate would be much lower than that of Whites. It is not. If anything banks are forced by the federals to make bad loans to non-credit worthy blacks. For 40 or more years the only employment discrimination has been in favor of blacks (arrirmative action) with qualified Whites passed over to make room for unqualified blacks.

Yeah......those middle-class blacks usually supporting a broader 'social safety net' are almost always employees of government guarding their own gravy train and rarely small business owners fueling the economy.

Well said. The government pushed banks into lending money to those with bad or sketchy credit. The problem was the people didnt pay their bills and defaulted. Like a I said a lot of this thread supporting giving special privileges to those who haven't earned it are deceptive because it makes it into a racial thing rather than an honest thing. Banks didn't loan to people because they were black. They didn't loan because they were a bad credit risk. And when the government got involved pushing bad risk loans the collapse came and the banks lost a ton of money. The banks were right in the first place.

Yes and MOST of those socialist countries are in a lot of trouble. Because socialism doesn't work. It never has and never will. Capitalism is the best way to go. Problem is we haven't been a capitalistic society for a VERY long time. Big business has realized that if they can get in bed with government They can use the government to support or push their products while squeezing out other businesses. We need to get government to get off the back of business and we need to get business out of the government's pockets. We as a people need to quit demanding FREE STUFF and start demanding FREEDOM.

POTUS ruled that business' are people too and they have a right to buy politicians. Were they right to do that? I don't think so.
