Well yeah, im a dork and bored and just curious if anyone listens to any of these bands... The smiths, the cure, the pixies, belle and sebastian, bright eyes, mogwai, elliot smith (RIP  ) Godspeed you black emperor, Joy division, modest mouse, neil young, the velvet underground...

Im just curious because most Christian people that I've met (mainly my age) havent even really heard of the stuff I listen to. If you are curious I will write some songs to download. I would greatly appreciate some feedback!!

The Smiths- panic
The Cure- close to me
New Order- bizzarre love triangle
Elliot Smith- needle in the hay
The Church- under the milky way tonight
Belle and Sebastian- im waking up to us
Bright Eyes- sunrise, sunset
The Anniversary- husam, husam
Joy Division- love will tear us apart again
Modest Mouse- a different city
The Pixies- "all over the world" another good song is "Where is my mind?"

I would be amazed if anyone actually downloaded any of that, but im genuinely interested...and dont worry, theres no swear words or anything like that in any of those songs, its clean stuff. I mean, my friends like a lot of the same stuff, and I can always meet kids at shows who like it too of course, Im just wondering if any Christians are into any of this stuff. Thankyou, and farewell.

OK I just want to say you rock.....you listed some of my favorite bands and songs. The Velvet Underground and the Pixies are two of my favorite bands ever, and Modest Mouse and Belle and Sebastian are great musicians still making music. I could go on forever about almost all of the bands you listed. Joy Division's wonderful too (you ever heard of Interpol btw? they sound kinda like joy division, but a bit different. great band tho). Mogwai and GYBE! are awesome, have you heard of Sigur Ros? OK i'm just rambling, but you seem to like the bands I do and I haven't really seen anyone else on CF that does.

haha!! yesss!! mission accomplished!!! this is awesome!!! I have indeed heard Interpol... they remind me of Joy Division a bit, they sound a bit blander though, but they are still good. I've heard some Sigur Ros, but I havent heard enough to get into it, its cool stuff though, I should check some more out. This is so cool, yeah I love The pixies (alec eiffel!! haha), modest mouse, and belle and sebastian..sooo good. I love music. You know what I just noticed about Modest Mouse? I dont know if they are religious or not, but a lot of their songs make me think about God, and life in general, its beautiful stuff. The best way I could describe Modest Mouse is raw, its raw music, it makes me happy when im sad, and sad when im happy, angry when im calm, and calm when im angry, and I love it. Have you heard "Bankrupt on selling" by Modest Mouse? heres some lyrics:
Well all the apostles-they’re sitting in swings
Saying I’d sell off my savior for a set of new rings
And some sandles with the style of straps that cling best to the era
So all of the businessers in their unlimited
Hell where they buy and they sell and they sell all their
Trash to each other but they’re sick of it all
And they’re bankrupt on selling
And all of the angels
They’d sell off yer soul for a set of new wings and anything gold
They remember
The people they loved their old friends
And I’ve seen through’em all seen through’em all and seen through most everything
All the people you knew were the actors
All the people you knew were the actors
Well, I’ll go to college and I’ll learn some big words
And I’ll talk real loud
[bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] right I’ll be heard
You’ll remember all the guys that said all those big words he must’ve
Learned in college
And it took a long time
I came clean with myself
I come clean out of love with my lover
I still love her
Loved her more when she used to be sober and I was kinder.

Yeah, I dono, I like their stuff a lot though. And in "Gravity rides everything" this part always reminds me of how someone is looking out for us..and everything thats meant to be, is meant to be...and that God is good, and it will fall into place. anyways heres the part:

Early early in the morning it pulls all on down my sore feet
I wanna go back to sleep.

In the motions, and the things that you say

It all will fall, fall right into place
As fruit drops, flesh it sags
Everything will fall, fall right into place
When we die some sink and some lay
But atleast I dont see you float away
And all the split milk, sex, and weight
It all will fall, fall right into place.

Looking back over my modest mouse cds, I just realized how much it makes me think about God. I gotta find out if their religious...I dont know, they got something cool going on though, thats for sure. Basically all the songs on "the moon and antartica" cd like put me into a trance, its amazing, I love it and it makes me happy, calm, everything at once. Anyways, this is awesome man. Take care. PS, where are you from?

Hey man, I'm from Kentucky, student at UK. This is really awesome, finally someone who listens to some real music, not just U2 all the time!! (just joking Axver, and anyone else I might have offended by that comment) So you're a big Modest Mouse fan eh? I have a friend who loves them, he burned me a disc w/ a bunch of their songs on there, Bankrupt on Selling and Gravity Rides Everything were two of them. Good songs both, and the rest of it. BTW, what's your name mean? I'm just starting out as a Pixies fan lol, I only have Surfer Rosa and Doolittle. I'm assuming your name comes from something on Come on Pilgrim, Bossanova, or Trompe Le Monde. Speaking of the Pixies, did you hear they're reuniting and going on tour? Not sure if that's a good or bad thing for them, but I'm more than willing to hear them play together again. They are co-headlining the Coachella festival with Radiohead (another one of my faves) in California in May I think. Wish I could make it out there, but that's close to finals week and a couple thousand miles away from where I live. That concert would be a dream for me. So what's your favorite band? Mine is either Radiohead, or one you've already mentioned- The Velvet Underground. It really depends on the day with those two. Ah, finally someone I can really talk to about music!! Too cool!!

this is crazy. my name, Alec Eiffel, is a song by The Pixies, Alec Eiffel is about a man, I dono its a weird song but I always liked it, so now its like my alter-ego, haha. download it, if you cant download it let me know and I could email it to you, or send it to you over AIM (if you have that). Yes I have heard about the Pixies reuniting for a tour, I hope I can get out to see them, I gotta check the schedule. It would be amazing to see them live, I cant even imagine. I dont think they are gonna make any new songs though, I think they are just touring, so it sounds like a good thing. Ah, you like Radiohead, I've never gotten too much into them, but I do like a few of their songs. 'Electioneering' is pretty good. I got a few favorite bands I guess, I dont think I can point out my favorite, it just depends on the day, mood, whatever, you know? I like Modest Mouse a lot, the pixies, the cure, the smiths, joy division, I dont know, a lot of random cheesy 80s pop hits I like. Have you heard 'husam husam' by The Anniversary? Its an amazing song, the intro is kinda long, like a minute and forty seconds, but its a perfect build-up, it reminds me of how beautiful the world can be. yeah, im a weirdo. haha. You should check out the song though, for sure. Do you have AOL/AIM? If you do I could give you my screen name and you could IM me if you want, talk about music or whatever. Take care man.

yes yes yes and yes...good stuff...the onlys stuff i havent heard is the church and anniversary...what kinda stuff are they??? the rest i have heard and liked, i hear so many good things about modest mouse i must listen more. GYBE are a favorite of mine, just got the sea and cake and explosions in the sky cds if your into post rock. Sigur Ros is also great, im wondering about the new album, its supposedly more accesible......as for coachella, maybe ill go this year, don't know the full lineup as it is not on the website yet, but im sure it'll be madness. Interpols pretty good, 'nyc' and 'pda' are pretty good...own a smiths and joy division cd..still trying to get into them. I'm very surprised at you people so young yet know so much good music.
If you guys are into electronica, you should check out 20th century classical mussical/minimalist music or IDM. thes genres are awesome, You won't regret it!!!!!!!

btw, guided by voices, what do you think! I love em, as well as cursive!

Hey Alec my IM is nadroj1985 so shoot me an IM if you ever wanna talk. A lot of times I have my away message on but I'm still there, so try anytime. I'm in the process of downloading those songs you told me about. Time to return the favor......Good Sigur Ros tracks are "Staralfur" (achingly beautiful) and "Agaetis Byrjun" (ditto). Have you heard of Television? They have some of the best guitar interplay of any band I've ever heard. Check out "Marquee Moon" and "Little Johnny Jewel" for them.

Oh, and 44, I've heard a bit of GBV, they're a pretty cool band. I really like "I am a Scientist," particularly the line "I am a lost soul, I shoot myself with rock n' roll; The hole I dig is bottomless, but nothing else can set me free..." I know exactly what he means. Great song. Haven't heard of the other band you mentioned though....

If you cant, I'll hit you up on AIM tomorrow if you want and I can send it to you.Nadroj1985, I added you on my list, im tired and about to sleep though, so I will talk to you both tomorrow. I've heard of Guided by voices but havent heard their stuff I dont think, I've heard some cursive, I havnet gotten into them yet though. I should download some of their stuff. Theres so much good music out there and so little time!!! Take care guys.

cool. Staralfur is really good, its pretty, and I just finished listening to agaetis byrjun, it sounds good, but will probably take a while to sink in. Thanks for the suggestions.

No problem man. Those are probably my favorites, but they've released two full-length albums (well three, but I think one is only available in Iceland), and they're both really cohesive albums, you know the ones where the songs really work better together than they do alone. So if you like those definitely look into buying the albums.

i was just listening to the pixies today. Also, sonic youth's dirty is rather good. I heard a bit of stuff from this band, All Natural Lemon and Lime Flavors; anyone heard of them? I only heard 2 songs, both from different albums but I liked what I heard......I also just got the re-issued calla debut album, which has a lot of instrumentals and seems more experimental, but if you're in the mood, it's good. Oh, you know who else is pretty good, Broken Social Scene. And Black Rebel Motorcycle Club has been in my cd player of late. Oh, and also, I went to see Super Furry Animals a week ago and this goup, Papa M opened for them and I enjoyed their stuff as well.....

Hey Nico, I haven't listened to most of the bands you listed, but Sonic Youth is great!! You gotta check out "Daydream Nation" and "Sister." Download "Teen Age Riot," it's off DN. Really great song.

Oh BTW, is your username referring to the singer Nico? She's really cool too, and anybody that was remotely involved with the Velvet Underground is great in my book ;)

Oh yeah - David Bowie is great too, one of my favorites (although that is a rather large group...)

Life on Mars is an incredible song, and there is loads of other great stuff - Starman, Scary Monsters, Space Oddity, could go on for ages :)
