Because science stated Pluto was a planet as fact. They did not say Pluto 'may' be a planet. They said Pluto IS a planet.

It was a fact at the time that Pluto matched the criteria of what a planet was
Then we discovered more stuff, which triggered us into redefining what planets are.

In light of that new knowledge, Pluto no longer fit the description of "planet" and it was a better fit for the new category of new stuff that was discovered.

We are going around in circles. You continue to "protest" something, but it seems you aren't able to articulate what exactly...

I can only conclude that you are mad about progress being made.

I'm not upset that Pluto is no longer classified as a planet. Quite the opposite, I rejoice in the new understanding, the new knowledge, the new insights,... concerning our solar system.

Not really; when the 'million happy coincidences' are the demonstrable consequences of a single assumed principle, they are a million happy confirmations of that principle. Definitions aren't facts. In reality, planets are human constructs, a way that we have decided to categorize celestial bodies. The facts about the celestial bodies have not changed.

Again, categorising an object based on certain criteria is not a matter of claims, but a matter of definitions.

New information justified the need for additional criteria and subsequent reclassification according to the updated criteria.

As Loudmouth said, not a single fact concerning Pluto was retracted at any point in this process.
