I am trying to build one of these. My wife says see where you can buy one cheap.
Well, go ahead and build it, if DIY gives you joy. God told us to be hard workers.

Exodus 31:1-5 (NIV): Then the Lord said to Moses, "See, I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills—to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of crafts."

You could maybe find some sort of a band saw for around $60. I think I paid around $89 for mine. I do not ever use it anymore but if I were to sell it I would need it the next day. Murphy's law.

I've seen some bad "DIY tool" videos, but that one's up there. What you'll actually want to get depends on your use case.

If you want to cut lumber on a work surface like in the video, a reciprocating saw (what was made in the video) is not a good choice. You'll want a circular saw or a miter saw for that. Even a traditional crosscut hand saw would be better than the tiny hacksaw in the video.

There are also bandsaws that do chop cuts like what the video showed, but they're more expensive and slower than a circular saw. They're normally used for cutting tough materials like metal.

If you want to do rough cuts (demolition work), a reciprocating saw is a great choice. It's best for fast cuts where you need to be able to manage the tool freehand and the result doesn't need to be pretty.

A circular saw or reciprocating saw is very cheap at Harbor Freight. You can also probably find these for sale used in your area on Craigslist or something.
