  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

My husband filed for divorce from his ex-wife in August and it became final that December. That was considered quick for where we live. Typically there is a 6-month waiting period where the couple has to be legally separated (they'd been living apart for longer than that), and it's a 1-year separation if there is a child involved.

I have friends who had children who were able to get divorced very close to the 1-year mark because they worked out their custody and support arrangements amicably and quickly before the divorce hearings. I have other friends who are still struggling after two years because they can't work those details out, and the judge won't finalize the divorce until they do.

In the state of Texas, there is only a sixty day wait required from when you file and it is finalized. Typically it takes a LOT longer than that, though. My ex husband and I seperated in June, I filed in October and sixty days would have been December, but with it being the holidays I didn't get to have the divorce finalized until January 10. It was a little over sixty days, but my aunt worked for a well-known attorney and he pushed my divorce through rather quickly given the circumstances. We also had no kids and not a whole lot of property that we disagreed on. The only thing we didn't agree on was my wedding rings. He pawned them (after I bought them) so I couldn't have them and he ended up having to pay me what I payed for them originally, which was a LOT more than what he got for them at the pawn shop! It was either his truck or the money from my rings and he chose the truck. It didn't matter though, because four months later, the finance company called me wanting money and I told them where they could pick up the truck!

Separated for 5 years then divorce proceedings started, about two years ago. Why did it take that long? My ex kept on moving from state to state and that always threw a wrench in the whole process, with child support, alimony, property issues, etc. I am stuck with two vehicles I do not want and I cant even sell them cuz I dont own them. The divorce is as good as final, except hes not really cooperating. =p

My husband filed in June of 2001 and it became final in September 2002. It took that long because we had to deal with division of his retirement and assessing both of our retirements and sell our house.

Hope this makes sense.

Hugs,
Trish
