My view about divine retribution is ...

  • The operation of divine vengeance is always intended by God to recreate and reform its object.

  • Divine vengeance is not intended by God to have any corrective results upon its object.

  • God does not operate retribution upon anybody -- Christian or non-Christian, good or evil.

I'm surprised to see such widely varying opinions expressed on this thread concerning God's punishment. I wonder how come? Does the Bible not clear this question up? It seems like there would be some more settled-on answers than there appear to be. The way I see it, the Church's ecumenical councils have probably answered this question, and, being a traditionalist, I'm inclined to believe what they say, if they have said something. **Confused.**
