In this case, God would have also provided a means by which his people could and would be asked to "Read tea leaves" in this sense, God has not done this...

I guess I'll ask you the first question that came to mind: If it's not in the bible, does that mean for certain that it is not of God?

There are alot of black magic, false gods/prophets, stoning people, etc...that took place in the bible. The apostle Paul used to slay Christians... ...DUUUHHHHHHHHH... was that OK? DUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHH, I'm not sure I even understand the question...

was it "should we care about some jaded false teaching website you stumbled upon and even give it the dignity of debating it with you?"

UUUUUHHHH....WAS THAT THE QUESTION?

I really don't think your asking for edification, just to rouse people up with something you know, yourself to be the pathetic nonsense it is with regard to our religion...nonbeliever or not.

At 34 years of age, one would expect more out of a "lady". You're very condescending and extremely presumptuous - you seriously need to grow up.

All of the divination and fortunetelling rules had reasons
behind them. It wasn't just a random rule of "I don't like this so you're not going to do it."

There is a premise that the supernatural forces not of God, are inconstent and eventually work against us (demons, the devil). While at one point a spirit force might be handing out power and knowledge, its end is to entrap and destroy.

Satan is called "the accuser of the brethren." The world tends to set the devil up in caricature form, as the ultimate of evil... but think of him as a personality, with spiteful aims and greedy intentions.

You will even find this inconsistent nature of spirits throughout non-Christian cultures. They behave more like Greek gods -- selfish, easily provoked, deceptive.

God speaks of us as His children, whom He wants to support and protect. He sets out His plan in writing, so the policies are in full view.

There are a few times where He shakes His head and says (my paraphrase), Why are you carving things out of wood and stone, and then thinking these blocks of material are worth worshipping?!

De 4:28 -2Ki 19:18 Isa 37:19 Da 5:4

There are times when occult practices are similar -- when we know that a businessperson is behind tea leaves and crystal balls, and we still consult them.

Familiar spirits are believed to be demonic spirits that know enough about the deceased that they can imitate them. People are drawn to these, because they can bring up so much familiar information.... everything seems very real, and often comforting.

God has in His wisdom created us without the ability to know the future And I believe the reason for that is that one day at a time is all we can cope with
It's easy to be curious about the future but ANY method employed to peer into it is questionable at best and spiritually very dangerous at worst.

I see many ways that God prepares people for difficult things they will have to go through, by giving them a hint of what's coming. But we tend to want to control, to own more, to posess power above our own... and we don't need more than God gives us. It is greed and competition that often drives a desire for prophecy and magic.

We think it's just fascination with the unknown, but the dark side of the occult is not just the external forces -- it's the darkness in us that we allow to grow.

Wanting to prove we're better at something than others, wanting to prove we know more without taking the time to learn, wanting to control our destinies without doing the real work to make things happen, wanting to feel more special by accepting illusions that we had a greater past .... those are some of the tendencies that come out.

I believe that there are times for prophecy and visions, but they are generated by God to meet very specific needs, to help us protect others as well as ourselves. We accept these with quiet consideration, wise preparation, and prayer for others.

Wanting to prove we're better at something than others,
When I was a kid watching a National Geographic special on tribal witchcraft, there were the fire walkers. I would think, "OK, but what does that accomplish?" It seemed to me to be just an ego trip like, "Look at me, I'm such a hotshot."

Curious to know whether or not these "beliefs" are based on feelings you have (or even assumptions) or do you have actual, scriptural evidence to support what you're saying?

Thanks a lot

I realize that many Christians oppose this type of supernatural interaction in contemporary life, but it is abundant in scriptures. That is the walk with God presented to us in recorded form.

You asked about my personal feelings -- I do not believe that messages from God should be drummed up, or spilled around like confetti and Silly String. But I do see God's interaction at work in churches and individuals on a regular basis.
