Has anyone taught a child how to ride a bike without training wheels? We've been at this for a few days, and it's just not clicking. We don't have any paved roads with shoulders in our community, so we've been commuting to a paved parking lot. Also tried a large field, where the snow just melted, but the grass hasn't grown in yet so it's still flat. I read a website that recommended taking the pedals off to practice, but I cannot get the pedals off. Perhaps my child's bike is built differently, but it looks like the pedals have to stay on.
I bought the knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, helmet... all stuff I didn't have as a kid, and I still learned in one afternoon. My child does fine with training wheels, but has definitely outgrown the bike that has them, so it's time to move on. Any tips? Fear of falling seems to be a BIG issue.
