  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

At what age did you remove the crib from the baby's room and replace it with a toddler bed? My 2 1\2 year old son just got big enough to climb out of the crib and crash to the floor. We had been talking about getting him a bed for a while and before we got the chance to go shopping for one, in the middle of the night our son starts crying and wakes us from a dead sleep walking out of his bedroom. I freaked out and thought he was hurt. Has anybody else had this happen?

DD and DS were in their toddler beds long before they could cilmb out. (actually I don't know if they can climb out now, but they certainly can climb in!

IMO use the crib til you get tired of picking them up, and they can easily climb into the toddler one (real beds are very tall and no rail totally keeps them in, if it did it would have the same climbing risk of a half asleep toddler)

If you only want to buy one bed for your child, but are afraid that a regular bed will be too high, don't use the box spring. put the matteress on wooden slats in the regular bed. The child doesn't weigh enough to make a difference and doesn't need the support of the box spring for a year or two.

If he's climbing out of the crib, then it's time for the toddler bed. Of course, if you want him to stay in the crib awhile longer, they do have those "netting/tent" things you can buy to put over the top, it keeps them from climbing out.

Our crib was one of those that converted to a toddler bed, and we changed it to the bed right after my daughter's 2nd birthday. She had never climbed out of her crib and probably would've been happy staying in it indefinitely, but I just felt it was time! lol We did use one of those rail things for awhile, but never had a problem with her falling out of bed...even now that she's in a regular twin bed (she got that just before her third birthday about a month ago).

I will definitely not be switching to a bed as soon as my son can walk, or I would have switched already. He is too young to not be in the crib. If I put him to bed in a regular bed/toddler bed he would probably jump out of bed and go back to playing with toys and fall asleep on the floor instead. He is too young to have his boundaries that big. And he could get hurt without my supervising or knowing he was out and about. I plan on keeping him in his crib until he learns to crawl out, hopefully about two years old. Our crib then converts into a toddler bed which I will use until I get him a grown up twin mattress.

If he's climbing out I'd say it's definitely time to switch to a bed.

For us, the switch to the bed coincided with the switch from diapers to underpants when they were 2.5 years old. I realize that for some children this might be too much change is such a short time, but for our kids it was a fun thing. Big kids don't need to wear diapers AND they also get to sleep in a big kids bed - YAY! Plus this gave us a little leverage in getting them to stay in the bed. Big kids who wear underpants stay in bed and they don't get out. So we also didn't have to deal with them always hopping back out of bed once we'd tucked them in. It was a way for us to teach them to be responsible.
