It depends on where you are getting the message. If it is during boot up your hard-drive may have been damaged or there maybe a a boot-sector virus on it.

Not sure yet.

If your computer is setup to boot from the CD first, then just put in the XP CD in.

If it keeps giving you those disk bootup failures messages, then we just need to go into Setup when your computer boots up and adjust the boot order of devices (Which means when the computer is looking for an operating system to boot up, it will go first to this device, say your CDROM, Hard Drive, Floppy Disk drive. If it doesnt find where its going it on the first try it will go to the next option)

Going into Setup involves presses a key on your keyboard, it might say on your screen that when you start your computer press so and so key to enter Setup. (Mine for example is the delete key)

Lets try the XP CD first, if if doesnt work I can PM you the directions on how to use Setup and go into BIOS....

Ok lets power of the computer first, let it stay off for a minute, then turn it back on.

When it turned back on, put in the Windows XP cd.

You screen should go blue and the setup of the CD should run.

Hang on here, let me find that site:

http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Lets do the part of XP Repair install in this document. Follow the directions exactly. If you cannot do step 5, end the setup and don't go any further.

Funny how a Linux guy is doing all this....:doh::clap:

Oh no....

You are at least asking the questions, and have the willingness to learn something.

If its a Microsoft Windows XP disc, yes.

If it is a Microsoft Office disc, no.

I do enough screaming at work..... just pray :groupray:

Just make sure you have a copy ready of those instructions.....remember step #5....

I have to crash, but I'll check on this post in the am.

Disk boot failure?
First thing you want to do is check your CD drive(s). If you have a disk in it(them) remove it. Next check your 3.5 (floopy) drive and remove any disk in it. Try to boot again. If you still get the message your boot sector may have bin dammaged.
Hopeing you made a rescue disk.
You may need to reinstall the operating system. I'm somewhat of a computer nurd.
If you need more help find me on the page and send me an E_Mail. I have other resources but thay may look like like advertising so I wonn't post them.
