• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I like pretty much everyone I've encountered in this section of CF. I also like the Women's discussion section. Other sections, however, seem to be frequented by people who act rotten. I expect that sort of stuff on secular message boards but it really bothers me when I see it at CF. I can't believe so many people come to a Christian message board and post such inconsiderate, proud, rude, and hateful things.

I just felt like ranting because there's no point in going into the threads I've seen and posting anything in them. I've just learned to stay out of it and hit the report button if applicable.

One serman the minister made the point that everywhere you go, people are people. Good folk and bad folk. This website is not excluded.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact great number of "Christians" have not even thought about opening the bible. Let alone looked into the mirror and humbled themselves to their own flaws. It is far easiler to point fingers at others, instead of taking a good hard look at one's own actions.

Also remember that a lot of people on this site are not Christians!!! Why come to a Christian site if you are not a Christian...I don't know....searching maybe??!! Some people are just rude! Also the saying goes "hurting people, hurt people"...that's so true! Sorry you got your feeling hurt ((hugs))!

Thanks. Yeah, I don't understand that, either. The thread wasn't directed at me and I did not participate in it but it just bothered me a lot because the OP could not have had any intention other than making fun of people who are overweight. He has made crude remarks in threads before (and by the way he is evidently a Bible reading Christian as were some of the other people in that thread), but this entire thread was dedicated to putting down the overweight -- that was it's sole purpose -- and all the replies just were negative comments and arguing. Also, the thread included nudity, which is probably why it was removed.

It just really grinds my gears because people are so ignorant about weight issues and inconsiderate of other people's feelings; I know someone who is suicidal mainly because he is overweight and people have treated him like crap his whole life. I myself am currently overweight due to taking a medication that caused me to gain weight and get an endocrine disorder; I have done 3655 minutes of exercise in 70 workouts since January and I did plenty more exercise in previous years -- I hate it when people say things like "fat people don't care for themselves and are lazy and don't care about their looks" etc. I know of another person on this board who has the same disorder as me and she eats like 800 calories a day and exercises but cannot lose weight. I have another friend who has had a thyroid disorder since childhood and he has trouble losing weight.

No matter how man times cases like the above are brought up, the same people continue to act inconsiderately and ignorantly and I am just tired of it.

I hear ya,

Couple months ago, I got out of work after working my butt off. Already after 9pm and not eatten anything all evening. I went to the drive in at local Wendy's. In their parking lot and ate in my Jeep. Some group of kids in small car parked next to me. They made all kinds of faces at me. It was obvious that the punks thought I was some kind of pig. I bet I did more work in last 8 hours than they did all week.(retail)

All comes down to "Do not judge others". Now of days, I use the truth as a shield. I just let their crap bounce off my armor, because they don't know the truth.

I listened to a radio show and they were discussing the whole Imus comment. A lady called in saying if her daughter was on that basketball team, she never have her be in that interview/statement. She taught her daughter not to let people rob her of her own self image. They never heard of Imus until media made a deal about the comment. She wouldn't let some nobody get that attention. He is a fool and it will just be even more obvious.

I was inspired by that. Why give these fools the keys to our own self image?

Editted. Cleaned up my bad grammer lol

ouch

People that say things have no respect!!
They talk about fat people like fat people have no feelings or are not human.
Ive been at both ends of the spectrum and it hurts to hear people make rude comments...:(

As for being Christian, trust me, Christians can be just as cruel if not more cruel than none Christians, infact some NonChristians are more supportive in someways.
I guess I dont judge by ones faith.

I like the womans section and the Mental health section of the board (Mental health section is opened to all-Christians and non Christians and I find it very supportive).

It's really sad when you think of how Jesus accepts everyone as is...for who they are, not what they look like, act like, work at, how much money they have, what clothes they wear, who they hang out with, what car they drive, what education they have, what race they are, or how much they weigh....but we as His followers judge people unfairly all the time! Lord forgive us!

I've heard much about the negative aspects of the board, but thankfully have not encountered any as I stay 99% in the mental health forums. However, as already stated.... people are people. We all have our flaws. Yes, inconsiderate people get on my nerves. Yes, that's a pet peeve of mine. But even still, they are still children of God, just like us. We may act more Christ-like, or at least strive to. We may not attack people like they do. But we all do things that we aren't proud of and that make God sad.

I don't know. I hate to tell anyone to not judge others, because I judge people wayyyy too often. And I can see your point, too.

Argh. I wish that hugs could take all the world's yuckiness away.

You know even though Ive been there...
I still have my faults and I still find myself judging others, as Im human...as Mask said God forgive us...
I think God knows we are human, and I think this is one of my struggles is not judging.

I wonder though at least with myself if we dont judge others based on things we dont like in ourselves (so really we are judging ourselves also??).
I have a fear of fat (I was fat- obese) and when I see others I do judge in the back of my mind.
When my oldest eats, Im thinking he's eating way to much (he's larger) and Ill start telling him...Hey, you shouldnt be eating that much, your making a pig out of your self, its not good for you...then Ill stop as it hits me that I had others (no not my mom) do that to me when I was younger and it hurts big time, and I wasnt even fat then, and neither is my oldest son.

Hmmm :sorry: just thinking here.

I could say the same thing about some church business meetings and deacon meetings I have been to. Unfortunately, being rude or judgmental is pervasive in the church today. I've been hurt numerous time by church members. Sometimes the nicest people I have come across aren't even christians.
