Discworld is my favourite series of books (UK fantasy/humour) and Red Dwarf is my favourites TV series (UK Sci-Fi/Comedy).
Terry Pratchett, the guy who has written all of the Discworld books, is an avid fan of Red Dwarf as well.
I am wondering if anybody has come across these, and I would like to know their opinions on them.

My favourite joke from Discworld is 'An Ecclesiastical Rev Counter', which is an item mentioned briefly in one book in a religious context. 'Rev' could easily mean Reverend, but it could also mean Revolution - ie turn, turn, turn, which is a song by The Byrds, in which the words are taken from a passage in Ecclesiates.
There are probably hundreds of very subtle jokes in each of the Discworld books, as well as some more obvious ones. There is a lot of tongue in cheek parodying of a lot of things as well.
Red Dwarf is a BBC space/sitcom made with very little money, with 8 series made from 1987 to 1998. Hopefully the movie will begin production next month in the Gold Coast.

I love the discworld series! I think (although it's a very hard call) that if forced to choose a favorite, I'd have to say Mort but then.....and then there's.....okay, I'll stop. I like them all. ;)

I've never seen Red Dwarf. I don't get BBC here, I'm afraid. :(

Oh, and Mort is great. Apparently a few years ago, some American producers asked Terry Pratchett for permission to do a movie based on Mort in exchange for a wad of cash.
What they wanted to do, however, was to drop a certain character - Death, the big man himself (the main character for those who haven't read the book).

My most favourite Discworld books are (not in any order), Moving Pictures, Mort, Feet of Clay, Jingo, Carpe Jugulum, Going Postal (the new one), The Truth and Maskerade.
However, I would recommend going from book one through to the most recent, however, it isn't imperative to read them all in a chronological order.

I have recently discovered discworld and absolutely love it. My hubby and I are reading our way through the ones we have. I got given Thief of Time as a gift a few years ago and couldn't get into it. Since then I have been given about 4 others as gifts - my family got the idea that I liked them because I had been given the first one!!! Anyway - I've read like number 2 or 3 - light fantastic?? Wyrd Sisters, Pyramids, Thief of Time, and Nightwatch.

I loved Thief of Time and really liked Wyrd Sisters as well. Nightwatch was good too.

I love how he sets up stereotypes and then breaks them down. It cracks me up.

Carpe is great, read it. Nightwatch is also great, but 'Going Postal' is brilliant. Monstrous Regiment is hit and miss, and with me, it was a miss. Feet of Clay is one of my favourites, but I think Maskerade is my all time favourite.

Hopefully production will start soon in the Gold Coast for the Red Dwarf movie. They have been trying to make it for the last five years, but they have had four companies who were going to give them the money go under, as well as various other ways of funding the movie not work, as well as the BBC (for whom Red Dwarf has made millions) deciding not to fund it, but 'Thunderpants' instead.
Plus there was this guy from Melbourne who claimed to be the Duke of Manchester and was going to put 60 million (100 mil US) into the movie, but his bank statement he sent them was a fake (the real Duke of Manchester moved to Melbourne with has family 50 years ago or seomthing like that).
