I think that it would be nice to have some kind of way of thanking other members.. there used to be a 'staff praise' forum, and staff had a button on their profile which one could click on to thank them for something, which linked to a thread in that forum. Maybe we could have something similar for all members?

For over 3 years, that's what I thought the Reputation feature was for. I give 2-3 a day, and often receive about the same.

I vote no. It's a nice thought, but as others have said, would probably end up as a popularity contest. I don't think a thank you forum is a bad idea, but I wouldn't frequent it because I already give people reps as a thank you.

It's hard to stay away from these kind of things turning into popularity contests.. This is probably a crazy idea, but I'll throw it out there.

...snip....

And this would be my primary reason for saying lets NOT have a MEMotM.

Frankly, MS, I and a whole lot of other members don't look at all the little blingy things people have by their names, and never look at homepages either.

A thank you forum would attract the interested, and attract anyone who wanted to thank someone. It would be there all the time, so you wouldn't have to keep track of dates and deadlines for voting for somebody, and at any time you felt grateful to someone for a kindness or a favour or encouragement, you could express that gratitude. It would give individuals the opportunity to indicate what they were thanking the person for if they wanted to, as opposed to people voting for a monthly nominee because "s/he's so sweet!" or "s/he's the only Catholic/Baptist/Charismatic nominated" and so on.

My thoughts, anyway.
That is an interesting idea.

Thanks for taking just a segment of my words to use them for the purpose of making a statement exactly the opposite of what is obvious I am for in this situation if you happened to read any of my posts fully. Appreciate it.

There have already been ideas thrown out that would keep it from being a popularity contest.

Everyone is so fearful that someone else would be honored, seems very strange to me.
But whatever, certainly I am out voted in this thread and it will be closed tomorrow so it doesn't matter.

Frankly bombila, I don't think that is true, otherwise you wouldn't bother to have bling by your name. Wanting people to know your beliefs, that you married, your flag. I believe you know people see these and if they are interested in you they do pay attention to your "bling"

Yep that is what I said, they would go there when they wanted to thank one person. That can be done on a homepage and is not an acknowledgement from the community that it is better for him/her being here

No, the staff is way over worked already. And, while in the areas of the site where the general population wouldn't make a fuss I could see certain areas that would. Which would just add even more to it. Judging by the issues in the teen section atleast for that section I would strongly discourage it.

It is clear that a member of the month is not desired. I appreciate your feedback as to why you do and don't wish that to be, so that we can understand your desires. As it is unlikely that one more day will make a change in this, I will make note that this idea is not overall a good one, and we shall move on from here..

In response to a couple comments on a forum for member praise, we do have that forum, but someone would need to advise the member of receiving praise: http://christianforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=576

The same forum is also available for staff, but again, someone would need to advise the staff member of receiving praise: http://christianforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=422

May everyone have a blessed weekend. On behalf of the advisors, thank you again for your thoughts and discussion.

In Him,
Kristen

This is a really sweet idea.....and when I first saw the thread this morning....I thought of all the wonderful people on CF.....but really this would turn into a popularity contest and many people's feeling would and could get hurt. I would suggest to not do this.

Now on the other hand....I think it would be appropriate for an area to thank the staff for the hard work they do.

I didn't know those were still there! Without the 'feedback' button which we used to have, I can't see them getting used a lot...

ETA: Having just looked at the 'members' praise' forum, most of the posts are members praising God.. which is wonderful, and I found it very encouraging to read! But it doesn't appear that it is seen as a venue to praise or thank other members. Maybe it needs re-naming...
