Hi Everyone,

The advisors would like to solicit membership feedback on the possibility of offering a member of the month award (MEMotM). Please answer the following questions and give us your thoughts. Please be respectful in responding.

1. Would you like to see a MEMotM offered?

2. If yes, what would be three (3) guidelines that you suggest we might consider to identify who qualifies for MEMotM (qualities, posting, etc.)?

3. What would be your recommendations on how to choose MEMotM so that it reduces the potential for favorites?

We look forward to hearing your ideas and responses.

May you be blessed!

In Him,
Kristen

I think other members should nominate and give the reason why they have nominated..whether inspirational, shoulder to cry on, or just alot of fun to be around.
let's see..qualifications..
1)You have to be good all month.
2.)You have to have been a member for at least a month..
3.)You have to be nominated. :sorry:

It's hard to stay away from these kind of things turning into popularity contests.. This is probably a crazy idea, but I'll throw it out there.

Have members vote, BUT take one, two or three with the most votes THEN take one, two or three with the least votes..Then in public let staff discuss the reasons they were nominated to begin with and staff vote based on the initial nomination.

well at least I got the thread started...

I think member of the month is an awesome idea.

1. Would you like to see a MEMotM offered?
Secondary Usergroup with a unique username color/font and rank image and keep it.

2. If yes, what would be three (3) guidelines that you suggest we might consider to identify who qualifies for MEMotM (qualities, posting, etc.)?
a) Active user (have logged in and posted within the past week)
b) Minimum of posts/week for the past month.
c) Quality of posts and reference scripture in more than a few sections
d) Within the past month, the user must not have flamed/cursed anyone (varify by seraching members last posts)

3. What would be your recommendations on how to choose MEMotM so that it reduces the potential for favorites?
MEMotM should be based in different parts with guidelines.

Example Guidelines:

1) You cannot elect yourself to be put up for MEMotM.

2) Forum leadership cannot be put up for MEMotM.

3) Your account must have been registered on CF for 1 year or more to be elected to MEMotM. Lurking time does not count.

4) User must not have any infractions the past month

Example Elect Process for MEMotM:

Part 1 = Thread where users can name a nominee for MEMotM and state 3 simple reasons how the nominee helped them personally. The poster must copy and paste references from other threads from CF.

Part 2 = Top number of nominees (5/10/20) posted in the thread of Part 1 would be voted publicly by CF members through a thread w/ poll.

Part 3 = Top number of nominees
(5/10/20) posted in the thread of Part 1 would be voted privately by forum leadership through a thread w/ poll.

Part 4 = Votes from part 2 and part 3 would be added then divided by 2 for each top nominee.

Part 5 = The top nominee would have to be accepted by 2/3 or more by ONLY forum leadership to be awarded MEMotM. Each vote against the nominee would have to be referenced from PM's/Posts/Threads. Must have proof!

Part 6 = Announcement of awarded MEMotM through official congratulations thread. (ALL posts against the winner would not be tolerated)

Feel free to debate and change any variables, but you get my general idea. I think this is the best way to vote for MEMotM

1. I think it's a great idea,to be honest. Although I do have one suggestion. Instead of doing only one member of the month (Which would really limit the odds of who could get the title, considering how many members there are) have a MOM for each section. It could go by the general Section (Theology, Ministry, etc.) or more specific for better odds (Woman's Discussion, Teens, etc.)
All in all though, I do like the idea. I just think that members will be more encouraged to participate if they know the odds are for them.

2.
1. Member must have at least 300 posts. Maybe 500. That way they will be known in CF.
2. Have a good Rep count that is genuine, not just from game threads. (I think the higher staff should be able to see Rep comments, so they can help figure out who is genuine and who isn't.)
3. Have a pretty good relationship with the posters. A person can have a lot of posts and some rep, but if they tend to irritate a lot of the posters instead of help them, it's not going to be appreciated if he/she is the MOM.

3.
Have the Staff of that section in on it for sure. Not that they should have the final say, but I think they can help select the top three members that will be candidates. After that, leave it up to a forum (hidden) poll where people can vote.

:)

No.

1. I feel this could be problematic.

2. This is a CHRISTIAN community. Would your congregation have a "Best Christian of the Month" award? I can see a "Best Player of the Game" designation in a baseball game, but this isn't a baseball game, it's a Christian community.

Two additional thoughts:

1. In many forums, the Staff is already overstreached, without adding this task - and all the fallout therefrom.

2. Once upon a time, we have a MOD of the MONTH thing. Even just among staff, that proved to be problematic and too time consuming and was dropped (if memory serves).

What he said. Seeing a member of the month posted would be a real problem for me, and as with most awards, it would lead to more drama than it was worth.

I personally don't think it is a very good idea for many of the reasons already mentionned. It will become a 'popularity' contest, something like this just always will. It encourages the notion, some people are more important than others, when that's not true. I think it will do more harm than good...

And I've just got to wonder why this would even be necessary or even beneficial to be honest? :sorry: And over stretching of staff's time and resources and time is also something else to consider as well, even though I've never worked on staff.

As long as the member gets 99.9% of all the votes from all members of CF

Thank you for the responses so far. I appreciate your suggestions and your thoughtfulness.

At this point, the general consensus is no. I will leave this feedback discussion open through Saturday, March 21, 2009.

Ah that kind of stinks that the majority is against it..I would like to see other member's get special recognition of some type. Alot of people don't get recognition in r/l.
What if we didn't do member of the month or voting, but special badges to those members who have went above and beyond to help people each month? There would be no certain amount of members, just someone who says "this person has been a great help to me" in whatever way..
I know some would still feel left out, but people shouldn't expect an award for helping someone anyway...It would just be a nice gesture from the other party to acknowledge it..

Ah well, I wont give any more input regarding MEMotM if people feel it would be that hurtful to others, even though I don't understand it. Seems like others would be happy for them to receive special recognition, not be in the mind set "Oh I deserved it more".
