Since there are two free courses, perhaps your distaste has to do more with Intelligent Design than the price?

It's a combination.

ID hasn't proved itself scientifically. Just the fact that one of the courses is from Meyer claiming to "investigate the evidence for ID" is a huge red flag. I've read Meyer's works and he doesn't really present evidence for intelligent design. Rather, he makes his argument primarily by arguing against evolution and (incorrectly) assumes design is the null hypothesis.

In fact, just looking through the lecture topics for his course, only 3 out of 34 are labeled as the "positive case for intelligent design". And if it's anything like his latest book, Darwin's Doubt, where he devoted only one chapter to the subject, I suspect it will be highly disappointing.

Quite honestly, this just seems like a cash grab from the DI.

Discovery Institute is branching out into online teaching courses. Here are their first offerings, a couple are free:

Not really they much of a surprise given that (at least to my understanding) Christians are commissioned to spread Jesus' teachings.

Edit: ah, I thought they were giving them for free. Where in the Bible did Jesus charge people to learn his message? I must have missed that bit.

I would be interested to know if there is anything in those courses we haven't seen already.

Judging by the lecture descriptions, doesn't look like it.

This really does just look like a cash grab.

The same old "evolution = atheism" lie, in more elaborate prose. If you really want to know what the Discovery Institute is about, take a crack at their manifesto, The Institutes of Biblical Law by the late R. J. Rushdooney.

Divide $147 by over 80 classes = less than $2 per class.
Oh, then it is going to have to be a hard no. They would have to pay me a heck of a lot more than that. Minimum wage in my area alone is close to fifteen dollars per hour.

I think it is a proof of concept. Anyone paying 150 bucks for this can clearly proudly boast that he or she has totally missed evolution.

Maybe for a bit of extra they will supply you with certificate of that.

The online part of the courses is free, but the courses require you to purchase textbooks and workbooks. That's not really free, is it?
