There should then be a sorry button and a disagree button so the full spectrum of opinions is available. Those who disagree are not being represented unless they post as such.

I'll second that motion!

I need an example. I’m not sure how prayer would be considered goading??
I’m not a mod but disagreeing represented as praying is not kosher. Same with the funny button. That’s up to being reported and judged as to intention also.

It can be a way of indicating a) that you're wrong, and b) that the other person is praying that you change. I didn't see it often but it does happen.

You know, like maybe if you posted something about being a happy and fulfilled person as a Catholic, and someone rated it "prayers" as if you needed praying for?

I’ll take prayer anyway I can get it. God knows what is sincere and needed and what is not.

I'd rather have the buttons than 10 posts in a row that just say the word "agreed" and then having to weed them all out for the real responses.

I'd be opposed to adding negatives such as disagree, dislike, thumbs down icons, etc. If someone disagrees with a post, the right thing to do would be to post a response with *why* they disagree, and thumbs down is just rude, and based on how it's used on YouTube and other similar sites, it's typically used to troll and be obnoxious.

I personally don't view the use of "prayers" or "funny" as goading, even if it's because a person disagrees with me, provided they are not overused and used maliciously on every post someone makes. Sometimes people just say the craziest things and you can't help but laugh or say a prayer rather than getting upset or angry.

I would rather keep the ratings and their stats myself! I know sometimes they can be used wrongly ("Funny" and Optimistic" especially) and I don't like that either; I find it quite rude. But to be honest, I like them because it's a way to show you saw someone's post without having to make a one or two-word reply. I know when I post on other forums that don't have ratings, it's kind of annoying when I keep posting "Thank you" (or some other short, simple phrase) in my threads over and over, just so the others know I saw their posts. Sometimes I just can't think of a good reply to a post and I don't want to repeat myself all the time, so giving a rating is the best option. I also like being able to see how many ratings I've given and received out of curiosity, not competition.

The "Useful" and "Optimistic" ratings might not need to be kept though, since they're not used very much.

Your post reminds me....

I would wish that an icon for "thank you" was added to the ratings.

I've personally never been sure what "optimistic" is even supposed to be used for.

So the post with the most likes is right. I heard that the one with the most ratings is who to follow too. That’s brilliant deductions.

I’ve had a warning for a post that I thought was funny but the mods deemed otherwise and it was used as a strike against me.

That's not how I use it. I don't view it as a contest, but as a way of supporting someone who posts something I like or find thought-provoking.

But the prayer button was being reported because someone was actually disagreeing with what they said.

I can see that happening also.

It's sad that people use them to goad.

The one with the most likes does not equate to who is right. Look at the name of the forum which is ‘Christian Forums.’ People that side with Christianity and the teachings therein is to be expected here. At least I hope so. Where the problem lies is when those outside of the gospel as it was taught tend to twist it or argue against it. I think those that hold their ideologies and politics as infallible are bound to be disappointed. It’s like going to Church and being triggered by ‘Amen.’
