OK I am going to a Christmas party next week and we are supposed to bring "dirty Santa gifts". I have to confess that I really don't know what those are  Can anybody enlighten me :sorry:

The concept is very simple. Everyone buys a gift with in a certain price range and all the gifts are placed on a table. Then you take turns. You can either take a gift from the table or you can COVET a gift someone else has already chosen and take that gift from them.

The Bible is very specific when it warns us about coveting anything of our neighbors. This is not a game which should be played at all much less in the House of God.

Too many see it as an innocent little game, but in reality it is the devil's attempt to corrupt Christians a little bit at a time. Come on try it a small sin is no big deal, then another small sin and then another soon the small sins build up to a bigger sin.

How does someone even find a thread like this?
No idea.

Looking at ncrdbl1's profile he only has 3 posts - all in this thread - so I assume he's joined recently.

To pick up this thread he would've needed to browse new threads back to 2014 (last post before his) but judging from his first post (post #43) he wasn't aware that he was replying to an old thread.

Is there a statute of limitation on the teachings of God?

Since the original post this game has become more and more accepted even in churches.

Many things in our lives which we would never accept in one large dose are acceptable in smaller doses over a longer period of time. We become desensitized to the point we cannot see it eating away at our beliefs.

Can you tell me without any doubt in your mind that when you get your turn and see something someone else already has and you want that gift that you are not coveting what that person has.

God knew the dangers of coveting what others have and how it could lead to so many other things.

Several other of the commandments are due to the sin of coveting.

Thou shalt not steal: why does one steal if it is not due to coveting the property of others.

Thou shalt now commit adultery: The Bible specifically addresses coveting the wife of your neighborhood and what is adultery other than desiring the wife or husband of someone else.

Thou shalt not commit murder: How many times does murder take place due to one desiring what belongs to another.

Thou shalt not bear false witness: How often does the desire to have what your neighbor has or to be envious of your neighbor causes one to bear false witness against that person.

Too often these days we look at coveting as something small and insignificant. When in reality it is the stepping off point for other sins.
