... when science is by far the most reliable way of interpreting reality ...
There was no ark.
I mean, its dimensions are literally impossible using the construction abilities of that period and the materials used; not to mention all of the upkeep and such of the animals. It wouldn't be able to fit all of said animals, nor could they be reliably cared for in any fashion.
That's not how the story reads.
Why were dinosaurs not allowed on the Ark?
Scripture is very specific.
"And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female." (Genesus 6:19)
Poe? Who said they weren't?
I guess you don't understand what the word "specific" means
because all the specific passages in chapter 7 elaborate
on this very generalized passage.
If you limit the kinds, then they fit.
How Could All the Animals Get On Board Noah's Ark?
Why were dinosaurs not allowed on the Ark?
"When I explained that only about 600 species of dinosaurs had ever been named, that many species had been named from only a piece of one bone, that many of the species were probably of the same "kind," that many dinosaurs were small, that God wouldn't have brought the largest specimens to Noah, and that, in my opinion, there were probably only around 100 dinosaurs onboard the Ark, with an average size of a cow"John D. Morris, Ph.D.

How many kinds of Beetles were their?

"the Bible clearly teaches that it was only those "in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land" (Genesis 7:22) that were present on the Ark,
Lol, creationists are funny. "..with the average size of a cow...er....probably". The institute of creation fairytales hard at work and producing good solid material as ever.
So now we have to redefine specific ...

Was it the Irish Rovers? Oh, no. That was the unicorn.
And for the gizillionth time, can any "literalist" please provide a "specific" definition of what a kind is?

Perhaps none.
Only those "in whose nostrils was the breath of life" were on the Ark.
I'm not sure if they qualified. I don't use that phrase myself.
Gen 7:8 Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth,
21 And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man:
