Logismoi(Unwanted Thoughts)
I have been reading "Mountain of Silence" from Kiriakos Markides. It is a wonderful book about the conversation between an anthropologist and an Eastern Orthodox monk from Mt. Athos. They touch on a variety of Christian topics.
One of these is the existance of logismoi(the Greek), or unwanted thoughts. Or, thoughts that do not originate from us, but are external to us. They can be good or evil. The monk, Fr. Maximos, comments that they are a result of the fall. Before the fall, man(Adam and Eve) were in constant union with God. Their thoughts were "on God". When they fell, they were rudely detached from God and became susceptible to these thoughts. Fr. Maximos continues by saying that the youth of today are constantly barraged by especially evil thoughts, and as a result, suffer from psychological damage that can only be healed by God.
I completely believe this. For I suffered greatly from these negative thoughts until just a few years ago; when I was Chrismated an Orthodox Christian. What was so damaging about these negative thoughts was that I believed they originated from me and that I was a horrible person because of it. Not realizing that they originated from outside of my psyche, I dwelt in a very despondent state! I suffered greatly!
But thank God for His mercy and grace. Things began to change when I submitted myself to the Church, read this book and went to an Orthodox therapist. Through these helps, I learned to determine when I was being especially attacked. If a thought caused me distress, confusion and fear, I would cross myself and pray the Jesus' prayer. This really helped me. I would also tell Fr. James of thoughts that especially plagued me over and over. They really did become less and less.
Now, during this Great Lent, I am finding that I am being especially attacked. This does not come as a surprise since I am trying to fast and focus on Spiritual things. This goes against my worldly flesh and those things that are "not flesh and blood". Makes since that I would experience opposition. These particular thoughts are of other people. Judgemental thoughts. But I will remain strong...doing what I know works.
Anyway, it was refreshing to read of this again in the "Mountain of Silence". I highly recommend the book.
I agree. It could be spiritual, psychological, or both. I also wanted to add that when you hear this, go into the Word. Read the Bible. It is God-inspired and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in all righteousness.that voice in your head...is the enemy, trying to steal what you have with God.
once you recognize that you can ignore him...and when you hear it, start praising God...singing praying thanking Him....when the enemy realizes you are going to turn this toward god and into worship...i doubt you will hear voices anymore...since it will defeat his purpose.
if you still hear them, maybe get checked for schizophrenia...my son has this...but is now able to control it through medication.

Speak out loud to them, and tell them to leave you alone forever. They don't have a right to be in your head if you tell them to leave.
Use Jesus' name and His promises to free you. These voices cause you bondage -- and what's worse than not having control over your own thoughts! That territory belongs to you.
I've had this problem since age 10 and going up. Although I am attached to God and everything else, I keep hearing words telling me that God sucks, etc. I don't know whether it's because that's what I want to believe that. I've prayed before now and then but there used to be that time I couldn't even get rid of that voice in my head.
I believe it! We're likely in a victim mode when voices are stronger than we want them.He didn't say it in a sweet way either. ... God would never tell us to do these things without empowering us to do them.
Same here. Most libraries have full sets, ignoring their regular max tape limits.Listening to bible on tapes and walkmen helped me a lot
So true!The more you praise Him, pray to Him, and read His Word, you will soon find that the enemy's voice gets less and less distracting, until eventually, that voice is completely gone and Gods' voice has taken over.
