Dilated But No Contractions...??

Last week on Monday my Doctor checked me and I was 2.5cm dilated and 60% effected, then this past Monday he checked me again and I was 3.5 almost 4cm and still 60% affected and since I was having no contractions he said that he wants to see me every 2 days to make sure I don't to like 8 or 9cm without feeling any thing...

So today I had another appointment and I was 4cm. I told my doctor I still haven't been feeling any contractions so now he was getting a bit worried since I'm not contraction by now like a normal patient so now he wants to see me every day and says if I get to 5 or 6cm without feeling any contraction he'll be sending me to the hospital.

In a way I'm so excited to be almost half way there without any pain but in a way I'm really scared of getting to 10cm and her head popping out without making it on time to the hospital!

Has any one here ever had this happen to them before?

Another thing if you can please keep me and my baby in your thoughts & prayer that I will have a nice easy labor (and make it on time to the hospital:o) and that this baby will come out healthy and happy.

Well, you are already on your way to a nice easy labor, since you are dilating and effacing without contractions!

I'd do lots of walking, eating pineapple and lovemaking to see if you can get some real labor going. If you get admitted before you are contracting, they will likely give you pitocin. Natural contractions would be easier on you.

And it's not too unusual what you've described, you may just be lucky! I agree with gracepaints, I'd try to hold off being admitted to hospital until you start naturally in real labour, but once it starts get there quick!

I had it reverse with my last pregnancy... but it was different ppl checking me too.... like when the nurse checked me I was 2 1/2 centemeters dilated... and then the next visit with the doc I was only dilated 1/2.... I've heard you can go a long time dilated without going into labor. I'm sure he wants to make sure the baby isn't going to fall out.... it's good he's checking you a lot with it.

I would like labor to naturally start on it's own but just the thought of me being 5 or 6cm right before the weekends and then all the sudden being a 8 or 9 on a Sunday without any one checking me and without know I'm that far along just scares me.

You are VERY lucky!!!! Praying things go smoothly as they sound like they are already.

You do definitely want to be admitted if you are 5+ centimeters. If you are not in labor though, I would discuss how much time they will give you before they put you on pit. Maybe ask for a membrane sweep and then cervadil first.

I'm now 4cm and 80%...my doctor recommended love making, so DH tried it 2 hours ago and now I think I'm feeling mild lower back pains and some tightness at the bottom of my uterus...I think in the last half hour/40 minutes I have felt 3 but I'm not sure...

I thought of asking him today to rip my membrane but wasn't really sure...if nothing happens by tomorrow morning I'll ask him to do that.

^Nah...I think it was just me maybe imaginating things...once I stopped timing it stopped so maybe it was just all in my head...?!

Today I was still the same but the doctor said he didn't want to rip my membranes...

I wouldn't get my membranes stripped if I were in your position. You're barely at your due date and your body obviously knows exactly what it's doing. And besides, stripping the membranes hurts and will only put you into labor if you're ready and if you're ready what's the point? Your baby will be here pretty quick so try and get some rest!

The doctor is checking me now every day but today (Sunday) and yesterday I was 4.5cm and between 80% - 90% effaced. I'm not gonna ask him to rip my membranes again, he explained that there can be some risks involve and he doesn't wanna do that unless he feels it's necessary.
Still no contractions. Tomorrow my doctor will be checking me again and we'll see if I have changed.

Thanks ladies! I do feel really blessed, but on the other hand it's a bit scary how far along I have come and have no contractions. The doctor said that maybe on my due date he'll stretch my membranes but I'm not gonna ask him to do that, I'm just gonna leave it all up to God and if my Doctor wants to go ahead and do it, it will be his decision.
