  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi,

I’m looking for a program (or script) that can do the following:

With a single high-res photo:
1) Automatically save several different versions
2) Automatically crop each version with it’s own specific Height and Width
3) Automatically save each version with a naming scheme (such as photo1, photo2, etc)

Does anyone know what can do this? I am currently using the Actions option in PhotoShop, but I am looking for something more automated the handle the high volume of processing.

Thanks-James

I'm pretty sure what you're looking for doesn't exist -- or at least doesn't exist in a form that would be user-friendly to ADAPT to your purposes. However, everything you want to do is pretty easily accomplished using basic C++ or really any basic computer language! I'm sorry to respond with this so late, but I would talk to one of your friends who is into computer programming, and see if they can put together a simple GUI for it. I am CERTAIN that the program could be written (with some more details on input/output requirements) and probably within a week or so by somebody who's familiar with graphical manipulation. Naming the photos would be extremely easy, cropping is POSSIBLE in a basic language, but I suspect that both the cropping and formating would be done more easily by calling up a separate program.

As a physics student with only the MOST basic computer programming skills, I'm afraid I'm not able to be of much help personally, but I do think you should look into some of your friends -- especially those currently studying computer science, as I suspect most professionals would have forgotten a lot of the basic programming needed when they specialized.

I just download all of my pictures, whether they come off of the internet or my camera to the My Pictures folder, then if I want to edit I just open them up. When I am finished I save the copy to an Edited pictures folder. I assume you are doing this for upload to the web.

Check out in Photoshop the Batch command.. File>Automate>Batch

It takes a predefined action (like you've set up) and applies it to either a folder, a list of pictures, or even the opened files, then it'll save it to any folder using a naming scheme that you determine!

This *could* be what you're looking for, but not sure if you've already explored this option.
