  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Christianity is different from, say, Judaism and Hinduism the way English is different from German and Korean: there are world views that are more closely related to it than others, and some that are *almost* entirely different.

All of that said, I don't think Christianity is "extra-special" in a way that sets it apart (and above) all others. It's a distinct world view. Nothing more, nothing less.

Turn the other cheek maybe..

Extreme form of outer love, although maybe weak on the inner love. Psychologically such a approach to life by the masses might make the world a better place. Although it shouldn't be followed to the bitter end. Especially when dealing with a sociopath with no empathy. He/she won't be swayed.

A preacher was about to preach. But just before they would sing. He sees this very rich man come in to church that did not know Christ. Oh now the preacher is lol worrying. Saying..oh God pleas let everything go smooth. Well as they start to sing there was this ...woman.. that would.. you know..feel GOD and started to jump around.. backwards. Now the preacher is praying and hard.. telling God to please not today.. stop her. He watches the woman jumping backwards.. eyes closed.. keeps jumping down a few rows gets to the rich mans row and slips and falls in his lap.

The next morning really early the preacher gets this call.. its the rich man.. the preacher says.. I know why you called and starts to just say sorry..cant say it enough. The rich man start to talk. Said.. and as GOD as my witness... I saw this sweet woman hoping around so i asked GOD if this is really you have her jump all the way back here to me. The rich man give his life to Christ. All anyone has to do is.. call on any if ANY so called real gods are out there .. ask pray.. seek.. see only ONE will answer. The key is ..you have to mean it. God does not play games. If anyone wishes to say.. GOD is not real..that is what HE will give you. Jesus said.. if you were blind you would have no sin..you say you see your sin remains.

So there are so many that are blind.. then there are those that heard the truth.. and still will not hear. Jesus is real. Really.. ask any doctor about the human body. There are things to this very day.. no one can explain. To look out at the vast space and think.. I KNOW THE REAL TRUTH.. I dont.. what I do know is JESUS is real.. ask Him.. mean it with your heart.. He will prove it

Differences? Maybe they can be found more in each human beings realisation of Grace and of its working within Reality.

Here are the words of Guru Nanak of the Sikh Faith:- "By God's grace alone is God to be grasped. All else is false, all else is vanity."

Again, the words of Swami Abhayanada of the Hindu Faith:- "They who have known God have known also this one certainty, that it was God's grace that led them to it, framed them in readiness for it, and prepared their heart and mind for it, and it was God alone who lifted them to that embrace."

Can the differences really be found within the creeds or even the particular names used? Though we must needs be receptive and open, to trust too much in the depth of our own sincerity is perhaps to miss the point that the causal basis of our "salvation" is in the nature of Reality itself, not in our own particular allegiance to cultural differences of time and space.

What do you think distinguishes Christianity from other religions?

I'm not enough of an expert on religions to say if what you are really asking is what details distinguish Christianity from ALL other religions. I might very well think that Christianity is unique on one issue, only to find that there is some religion that shares the same characteristic.

If we were to compare Christianity to other religions one-to-one, I'm sure that we can find many differences. Even comparing Christianity to its close cousin Mormonism (assuming that Mormonism isn't just another example of Christianity) will produce some differences, but not as many as comparing Christianity to Jainism, for instance.
