Differences??

What is the difference between Anabaptist and Baptist. I really don't understand why there is a delineation. I have heard of Baptist and Primitive Baptist and the difference is music in the service or lack thereof, but I don't know what is different between Anabaptist and Baptist.

Also the anabaptists as a whole accept the doctrine of Headcovering, Nonparticipation in government and nonresistence (meaning we do not believe in war).

Baptists are generally recognized as splitting from the puritan tradition~anabaptists go back further, splitting from the reformers during the reformation.

Whereas most baptists are typically "eternal security" historic anabaptists are not.

Whereas most baptists are typically "patriotic" willing to serve in military and police duties historic anabaptists do not.

Whereas most baptists are dispensational historic anabaptists are not.

There are loads of differences but the peace position is generally the separating line. I live in the heart of mennonite/amish country and the baptists & mennos (and I was discipled by mennos for the first 5 years after my conversion) typically do not mix well .

I use the term "historic" anabaptists; the anabaptists have split so many times into so many groups and there are some seriously liberal ones out there.
