  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey everyone. I am considering going to a PCUSA congregation this Sunday. I was raised Southern Baptist and that is what I am most familiar with. I am a moderate-liberal Christian and so am asking for comparison between the two. What are some of the major differences? Thanks! :)

Well, if you're a liberal Christian, you'll be right at home in the PC(USA)...

Thing is, I have heard that there are some PC(USA) congregations that are more Conservative. But I am guessing that even conservative PC(USA) congregations are more liberal than the vast majority of Southern Baptist churches? ^_^ I don't know, I am basically looking for basics about them. I found their website with some info about them last night but haven't really had a good chance to look them up. I think I'll do that now. :D

I am personally familiar with 2 PCUSA churches that are less than 5 miles from each other...one is quite liberal and the other is very conservative (in fact, would more closely align itself with PCA doctrine both biblically and socially). You never know what you are going to get until you visit the church and talk to some members.

You're right. I looked up the pastor's e-mail address through a directory on the PC (USA)'s website but apparently they have an oudated e-mail address on there site because it is broken. I probably will visit this Sunday. I've been there only once before and that was when I was regularly going to a Nazarene Church and our church was going to the Presbyterian Church for a Singsperation or something like that. I don't remember hearing any actual preaching. But from what I could tell, I did like the church. Now if I could just get over this sneezing fit I'm having.

HEHEHE I too was raised in the SBC, but after becoming MORE AND MORE reformed I found that my views didn't really fit in the SBC, I still attend and enjoy the debates lol! I love the PCUSA too though, a dirty Calvinist such as I am always welcome there lol!
