  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Marv, huh?

Anyway, to answer the question:

The ELCA has open communion - all believers are welcome to commune. You'll see different statements at different ELCA churches. Some will say, "all baptized believers" some will say "all people who believe in the real presence of Christ in the sacrament" some will say "all believers." It's always left up to the person who wants to commune. The pastor and members don't get to judge.

The ELCA ordains women while LCMS does not. The ELCA believes that God does and can use women. The LCMS says that women are not to preach or be leaders.

There are disagreements in the ELCA, too, but the ELCA is trying not to split while addressing them. So far, so good. . .but these things will keep coming into play. I won't discuss them here. They really aren't basic beliefs, but if you want to know, you can PM me.

what is the difference in beliefs between LCMS lutherans and ELCA lutheran?

I would like to answer this, but I would get into major trouble if I did so in this sub-forum. So I will answer it in the LCMS/WELS/ELS/LCC sub-forum.
