• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

All these arguments argue the existance of god. Lets say they are true. This only leaves you with a deisic god. How do you go from diesm to theism and more importantly christian diesm. Or do these arguments argue a christian theisic god. Or is christian theism based on faith not fact or argument?

:)
The Bible is how.

That is unless you foolishly presuppose that Theism is the result of a philosophical exercise. Then I could see where your confusion lies.

Christian theism is based on revelation.

Though there are issues with a deist idea that may make one think that unsatisfactory.

Deism and theism can lead to pagan religions such as the worship of Zeus or Jupiter, with the gods and goddesses that they are in charge of being as immoral, or even more immoral, that the people that they rule over. Even egyptian mythology had gods and goddesses performing such acts as murder of each other.

But the God that we identify as the being who laid out the plans for our salvation is the same God who told his people in the Old Testament era that there are actions which they are to do and actions which they are to refrain from doing. The laws of Torah were written as a society's moral and legal code, so that those who lived by them could have a cohesive society.

And no one was exempt from those laws and commandments. The person who plowed the field and the person who ruled the nation had an equal duty to obey those laws. And because of that the people felt safe among others of the various levels of their society.

For me it was based initially upon a "still small voice" telling me that I should take this religion stuff more seriously. That was a bit embarrasing, because, if not a paricularly militant atheist - and I certainly wouldn't have been posting on here - I was still an atheist. So I resisted it at first, but it wouldn't go away, and eventually I gave in, went out, and bought a Bible.

Gradually it dawned upon me that there were certain difficulties in not taking the gospels to be essentially true accounts of what happened. I won't go into them here, but I refer to one of them in another reply to one of your questions.

I suppose I did things back to front to the one you imagine, because then the fine tuning argument came along. I know there have been attempts to explain that away, principally with a multiverse, but to my ears they sound like just that - an attempt to explain away some otherwise inconvenient facts. One atheist physicist (Stephen Weinberg) freely admits that a multiverse is pure speculation.

Just want to respond and say the teaching in the bible are the most immoral.

I find it interesting that not after reading the first page you didnt put it down and realise that it was rubbish. God creates water before the stars which are created on the fourth day. But what is water. Hydrogen and oxygen. Where is oxygen made? In stars. Therefore their could not of been water before the stars. And then you should of put the book down. :p.
