The Barbra Streisand's 1983 film Yentl, was about a women who wanted to study Talmudic law. So she disguised herself as a man. The movie avoided any discussion about her actually becoming a Rabbi. Orthodox christian churches and conservative Rabbi tend to avoid ordaining women. This is clearly a tread among liberals as in the political arena this is supported more by liberal than conservatives.

As best as I recall, the title character in Yentl is seeking access to religious education, which was not permitted for women in her time and place. I don't think she is seeking to be a rabbi, though since she eventually migrates to the US, we could imagine she might find that door open to her in her new country.

I think I'd call the question "cultural" or "ethical", rather than "political", since it's not about civil law. (She's not trying to vote or run for public office, for example.)
