Matthew 21:12-13

"And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves."

GraceAnn2: Jesus apparently showed some "righteous indignation" here. When He said unto them, "It is written", He actually combined two different Old Testament passages to explain what prompted Him to do what He had just done. In Isaiah 56:7, "it is written" that God's house shall be a house of prayer FOR ALL PEOPLE. In other words, believing Gentiles were also welcome. From what I understand, the moneychangers/etc. were set up in the area known as "the court of the Gentiles" or the area where the Gentiles could gather in God's house. This is one of the things that Jesus was acting against. His Father's house was to be a house of prayer FOR ALL PEOPLE and Gentiles were being excluded by the moneychangers/etc. occupying their space, so to speak. Jesus also partially quoted from Jeremiah 7:11 in reference to His Father's house becoming "a den of thieves". Apparently, the moneychangers were also being dishonest in their moneychanging practices and Jesus didn't like that either.

Anyhow, although I believe that Christians can show signs of "righteous indignation", it should only be done if God is truly showing signs of the same. IOW, Christian's shouldn't just arbitrary seek to justify THEIR OWN BEHAVIOR unless it truly mirrors what God would have them to do.

I hope that this helps.

Thanks!! This is a good example of the wrongdoing of the moneychangers and Jesus' response to it.

I couldn't agree more!

It really does.

Great post!
We are but sheep destined for slaughter :sorry:

Nahum 3:2 A sound of a whip, and sound of a quaking wheel, and horse galloping, and chariot leaping. A horseman mounting. And blazing sword, and flashing spear, and many wounded and mass of corpses and there is no end to bodies.
[Isaiah 28 "scourge"]

John 2:14 and He found in the temple those selling oxen, and sheep, and doves, and the money-changers sitting,
15 and having made a whip of small cords, He put all forth out of the temple, also the sheep, and the oxen; and of the money-changers He poured out the coins, and the tables He overthrew,

Rotherham) Romans 8:36 According as it is written--'For thy sake, are we being put to death all the day long, we have been reckoned as sheep for slaughter.'--

Reve 18:13 and cinnamon and incenses and attars and frankincense and wine and oil and flour and grain and beasts and sheep and of horses and of chariots and of bodies and souls of men.
