People have commented here very well. But just in case you want Bible verses for an answer, I have a few in my pocket.

Remember always that Bible as a whole is full of advice and commands on how we should live our life accordance with God's will!

About our lifestyle as a christian:

Colossians 3 tells us we should live our new life with Christ as we have died to our old flesh, and this is why we have to get rid of worldly (fleshly) things.

The fleshy things at the root of our problems are self serving ways. Once we became aware of 'self' we became selfish.
