Can anyone imagine Jesus saying this?
Deuteronomy 25:1 If there is a dispute between men and they come into court and the judges decide between them, acquitting the innocent and condemning the guilty, 2 then if the guilty man deserves to be beaten, the judge shall cause him to lie down and be beaten in his presence with a number of stripes in proportion to his offense. 3 Forty stripes may be given him, but not more, lest, if one should go on to beat him with more stripes than these, your brother be degraded in your sight.
Not only that, but why is the guy degraded, after 40?
Like 38 stripes would not be degrading?
Matt 5:38 You have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. 39 But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.
Jesus preached mercy over the letter of the Law but he didn't deny that the Law was unjust.
John 8:
5 Now in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?"
6 They said this to test him, so that they could have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with his finger.
7 But when they continued asking him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her."
Frogster, do you not believe that Jesus is G-d?
Why do you say G-d instead of God you have fears of o's or something?
He was not trying to advert anything. He knew she had sinned, but the punishment according to Torah was for both parties. Basically it was thrown out of court for lack of required evidence. This is an interesting passage. Although Jesus did not comment on the justness of the Law in this passage He did manage to avert the just punishment of this woman's sin.
Hi Guys,,,I am looking to see,do any of you think Jesus would pick a a whip, and whip a man 39 tmes?
Matt 5:43 You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
No change, he kept the Torah and taught others how it should be kept.Hmmmm..would Jesus whip even an enemy?
Do you see a change?
Matt 5;43 You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
Frogster, do you not believe that Jesus is G-d?
My answer would be no, but not for the reasons you think. He would not do it because it was not his position to hand out the sentence for breaking the laws. This was part of the job given by G-d (Jesus) to the Levitical tribe. Jesus was from the tribe of Judah.
If he did do this, he would be breaking the Torah, and then be sinning and could not be the spotless lamb that took your sins in his own body so you could have life!
Why do you say G-d instead of God you have fears of o's or something?
Maybe it's a culture thing?
I wondered that myself, but.. she did use the o's in the rest of the words.....
"Fr-gster, d- y-u n-t believe that Jesus is G-d?"
Where is he saying here the law is unjust? The ones that brougt this case to him were the unjust ones. The law requires both parties, (both the woman and the man) to be accused together. They only brought the woman. There's a great deep lesson on this but I don't want to bore you all.
Adultery is a big deal to G-d and also to Jesus, Israel's biggest sin was adultery by idolatry.
No change, he kept the Torah and taught others how it should be kept.
Good question! Then why didnt Jesus give that answer? Why didnt he say ..where is the man?
Good question!

John 8 and Jesus writing in the Dirt
John 8:6This yet they said trying Him, that they may be having to be accusing of Him. The yet Jesus down-stooping to the finger wrote into the ground.
7 As yet they persisted asking Him, He up-bends and said toward them "The sinless-one of ye first the stone on her let be casting"!
8 And again down-stooping He wrote into the ground.
Daniel 5:24 In-then before-him being-sent the-fingertip, that of the-hand and-the-writing, the-this, being-signified
25 And this the writing that being signified: 'Mene', Mene', T@qal , P@rac'.
